Smark rage shouldn't play a role.that's not what it once was about Seconded. Wrestling is a goldmine of ridiculousness, there's at least something from some company each year that would fit the bill. If there's bad booking or decisions that bug hardcore fans that can also be tied into something truly silly, not just enraging, then sure, go ahead and nominate it. Otherwise it's kind of going against the point of the site.

Yep, the spirit of light-heartedness and fun is gone. Instead, they just bitch about booking like the common "IWC smark". I'm trying to pinpoint exactly what happened. I say that not to badmouth or bury anyone, but.... clearly, *something* changed there.

The Lana love rhombus is like the absolutely perfect Gooker candidate, so I hope that one wins.

If people voted the way they do now then in 1990 the Gobbledy Gooker wouldn't have even been Gooker of the Year. It's better than when the options were. Cesaro yodeling for like 2 weeks Santino and Jinder Snake charmoing spot (not an angle... a friggen spot in a 2 minute comedy match) and my favorite of the group "The Miz for existing" That's about all I can say positive though. If I had to give a point when it started going downhill... it was when RD focused solely on Wrestlecrap Radio and let other writers take over the inductions. Some of them were good (like Triple Kelly)... but most of them didn't go the lighthearted style that RD had in his inductions which seemed to acknowledge and even rejoice about the ridiculousness of wrestling.

I have to think that another factor that changed things was all of us becoming "smart fans" over time, combined with the lack of nostalgia-driving distance that we have today.
I can't go back and see the debut of the Yeti without laughing my ass off. It's everything you can ask for in Wrestlecrap.
Yet here in 2015, don't you think some of us might look at an angle like that and worry what it will do to the performers involved? Or maybe we'd sit there and say "last year we had Vader and Ric Flair main eventing, now we get THIS?!". Knowing the goings on backstage, being in the middle of something that's spectacularly terrible; it's harder to look at it and laugh at its stupidity nowadays, especially in this era where mainstream wrestling in North America is struggling so much.
Like, how would we respond to the Gooker today? Bastion Booger? The AWA team challenge series? Great American Bash 1991? We'd probably be thinking about the misuse of a Guerrero, of feeling like Booger's gimmick insulted our intelligence, that the team series was a depressing sign of a once-great company dying, that GAB 91 was WCW writing its own death certificate. Given the distance of a decade or two (or three!), it's much easier to laugh off.
I guess my point is that the original purpose of the site had a limited shelf life; once you got past most of the nostalgic bad angles/gimmicks/match concepts/etc., it became harder to laugh at stuff that was awful, especially as we all got smarter and started to perceive it more if we felt our money was being wasted, or if talent was being put in bad situations, etc., particularly in the current day with WWE being so stale, TNA on its last legs, and better companies still stuck at much smaller levels. It gets harder to laugh the bad things off when you might actually feel "dude, wrestling's dying, this is a really bad idea."
I'm rambling here, but I guess it boils down to this: the Rusev/Lana angle and Mickie getting hit by a train are two classically good Gooker candidates. Hell, something like Khali playing a flute and bringing the cobra to life could be a great induction idea. If this was an era where wrestling was hot, they'd win or get in for all the right, funny reasons.
But instead it's 2016, and people are scared that WWE will never give Rusev the push they feel he deserves, people are tired of Raw and don't like when bad angles take up a lot of screen time, and people are shaking their heads at TNA and are resentful over the fact that it never bloomed into the full alternative it should have been. It's tough to do Wrestlecrap the way it should be in the current environment.

I think part of why internet anger has become a big factor in the Gooker is that wrestling in the last few years has had more of an element of realism. It's why Superman IV is more of a humorous movie than Fantastic 4/10. While I do want to see a return to ridiculousness in the Gooker, it sadly reflects the current era.

Dolph/Lana/Russev/Summer is in the lead with 23% with the Divas Revolution in a close second with 22%.

I feel like the bizarre elements of the Jon Stewart angle are underplayed. That was just... whaaaaa? I think it could make a good article and to me is the best candidate for Gooker.
They had Jon Stewart riding a tide of massive goodwill turn heel to decide a title match on the second biggest show of the year in defense of Ric Flair's WWE-Universe-kayfabe title lineage.
That's gold.

Throw Mickie from the Train. Some of the stuff here is probably worse, but killing off someone in storyline (to boot, it was a regular performer, not just a one-note character like Al Wilson) is ridiculous. I love Lucha Underground, but they should have been on here too for killing Bael in a similar fashion (well, that one involved someone eating his face rather than a train). I STILL haven't checked out Lucha Underground, but it sounds like their show has a cinematic tone that would allow for something like that. Impact feels very set in the "real world", it didn't fit the tone of their show whatsoever. Hell, we saw that happen via SECURITY CAM FOOTAGE. Lucha Underground is a telenovela with wrestling in it, attempted murder fits in just fine.

The rusev Lana Ziggler thing. By a mile. So so bad. It should win for next year too.

Was quite a close one. While I wanted to see the Diva Revolution win, the angle someone named From Bulgaria with Love will be great to read.

I read that induction on the Cesaro Yodeling angle, and it was the most depressing read ever. They barely even talked about the yodeling and wrote paragraph after paragraph bitching about Cesaro's booking because they didn't have anything of worth to say about the actual gimmick.
