Cancer sucks and I onviously don't want to see anyone die but I wasn't a big fan of him marrying someone he first met when she was 12 and he was 38.

This is of course huge news here in Montreal, a total eclipse media-wise. All the networks except the sports channels and the weather channel have interrupted their programming and are airing tributes.
He's the Quebecois Dream. Started from nothing, the son of Syrian immigrants.
Culturally, there was a before and an after Angelil here. Before he and Celine, our whole pop culture was mostly translations of American hits, so no originality, or folk music dating back to the colonial days, or Christian songs.
He's the one who took this little wide-eyed, hooked-nosed, braces-needing teenager who sang about the voice of God and introduced her to French composers who wrote her real songs and boom, suddenly, we have real pop music in this province. And then her career just exploded and it made us realise that hey, there's room for us in the world. Without him there's no Arcade Fire, no Simple Plan... there's no Denis Villeneuve / Sicario getting 3 nominations at the Oscars.
Even after he became a multi-millionaire, he still cared about the local scene. There's a guy talking on TV right now named Gregory Charles that said he was hospitalised 10 years ago after falling off the stage, and Angelil was there the following day to visit him.
He also talks about how he was one black guy in a group of 40 golf players playing with Angelil on a Southern US golf course and they told him they didn't want him there. Angelil went to bat and made it clear that if Gregory Charles didn't play, none of the 39 others would play and that there would be hell to pay. He played.
He was a really generous man too. Donated a lot to charities, often requesting anonymity.
He'll be missed. He's survived by 6 children.

That's very sad to hear. I know he was sick for a long time. Condolences to his family and friends.

Why would anyone like the OP's post? Same reason people like sad statuses on Facebook. Don't overthink it.

I love Celine Dion, so I'm not happy about this. She always been a great performer with songs I enjoy, and she's always had one of the most successful marriages any celebrity has ever had. My thoughts and prayers will be with their family.
What was that about death being in threes? Because I'm sure this is a five.

Why would anyone like the OP's post? Same reason people like sad statuses on Facebook. Don't overthink it. I could understand liking a RIP post. But not the OP post with a link to the news story. Like too me it's only acceptable if this was a Osama Bin Laden is Dead thread. It just looks and feels weird

The like post function exists, hence it can be used. If you like the post, one can interpret it as liking the fact that the post brought the news to one's attention or that you like the person being reported about and thus, while it may be sad that the person passed away, you like that the story was reported about.

As long as nothing sexual happened before she turned legal, I have no problem with it, and there's never been any indication that it did. He was happy, she certainly was.

I'm just saying that I wouldn't fall in love with someone that I met when they were 12 and I was almost 40. Because that might indicate that I started falling in love when they were still a minor.
But I don't want to derail the thread.

Either that or their love developed from the initial starting point of mentorship.
