High-end Toronto restaurant 'misrepresents' menu

When you see a story like this, you can't help but wonder how often shit like this happens.

Unbeknownst to customers, when the “wild” salmon appeared on the table it was a farmed Atlantic variety, according to food inspection documents obtained by the Star. The “organic” granola was boxed Quaker Harvest Crunch and the “homemade” dressing was bought from Renée’s Gourmet. The promised Japanese beef, a rare, well-marbled delicacy that reportedly can fetch around $200 a strip, was really regular skirt steak from a lesser breed of cow.

There's gotta be a better way for restaurants to ensure customers of the quality of their food. This probably happens everywhere.

I often don't order a draft beer these days when I go out. If the beer doesn't taste like the beer you order, it's a cheaper brand. I remember seeing the back door unlocked and saw multiple 24 packs of cheap disgusting beer that isn't on the menu.

Any restaurant that does this ought to just be shut down permanently. It is especially insulting coming from a more upscale (or at least upcharged due to being located at a hotel) 50 dollar a plate restaurant.

More often than you think. At less that respectable seafood restaurants, the Dover Sole is usually just common flounder, most of the "fresh caught" or "wild" fish are farm raised and the calamari is really fried pig anus.

When you eat at an upscale restaurant, you are paying for the location you're eating in, not really the food. Food is food. A fish is a fish. A cow is a cow.

Oh trust me this is a very common thing.

For example any restaurant or retailer in the US saying they have Kobe beef is flat out lying to you, because the USDA made it illegal to import that legendary meat into this country.

And don't get me started on the fish. That's a whole other issue......
