The Ascension at one time were powerhouses?

Was this all a dream? I read and hear people say that Viktor and Konnor were dominant and actually champions at one time? For the people who watched them at the time in NXT, how were they?

There's no way it works in 2016 unless it's satire (like Devastation Corporation) and the Ascension were not in on the joke.

Funny thing is, the Ascension weren't always the way they were. Way back in FCW before that got replaced by NXT, the Ascension had an Illuminati-style conspiracy gimmick.

I liked them, I like the gimmick. There weren't many teams in nxt though so they had a really long run with the belts.

Main roster booking immediately killed them.

Eh, I like the gimmick, but I've always had a thing for "dark" and "monster" style gimmicks. The main thing is that when FCW was transitioning to NXT there weren't any dedicated tag teams, so they were top of the heap in those terms. Their original entrance effects and music were great.

The products of being the only tag team in NXT during a time when no other legit duo existed. They spent their time squashing jobbers and makeshift duos. People thought they were better than they actually are because it's easy to standout when everything is a wasteland.

Kenneth Cameron nka Bram was pretty damn good in the earlier incarnation. I just think Konnor is awful.

Though people actually take Dev Corp seriously(it helps that they actually look like powerhouses).

They were never given a backstory or reason for existing aside from "LOOK AT US, WE ARE INTIMIDATING AND HAVE FACE PAINT GROWLLLL WELCOME TO THE WASTELAND!" and nobody bought it.
