Super f***ing bummed about this. One of the true unsung heroes of all music. As Clarence Reid he made some of the most well-worded funkiest jams known to man. As Blowfly he pioneered rap in a way that should be revered as much as Gil Scott Heron or The Last Poets.
I had the tremendous fortune to see him live in 2007. That show was also the last time I saw my lifelong best friend Matt who died in a car accident a few months later. Really feeling the loss of both today.
RIP.

So before anyone has the chance to, can we just not have another "DAMN IT 2016!" sentiment?
Seriously, people get old and pass on. It happens. It's not the inner soul of the new year trying to drive everyone into a pop-culture-death-induced misery.
That said, I'm not familiar with any of his work, but from reading the article and seeing some of those song titles...I'm intrigued.

I'm not disagreeing with the general philosophy of people getting older and dying or that blaming it on a particular month/year is in the end pointless but this past month or so has been incredible in the amount of legends that have been lost. I've, personally, never known this many high profile people die in such a short period of time so maybe that's why people are reacting the way they are.
