When the murder-suicide happened it was a PR nightmare for WWE. It started with a tribute show on RAW, while CNN is reporting on the case and mid RAW it is announced that police are treating this a murder-suicide. They retracted the tribute show the next day. For the next month steroids and drugs being part of WWE culture. This happened at the same time as NFL concussion deaths were slowly being publicized. Since the event a publicly reported health & wellness program has been put in place. There are plenty of reasons not to speak of Benoit. First the company does not want to be accused of profiting from Benoit, and the events. They still sell video with his matches, and he is on WWE Network, but is not advertised or listed. I remember being here that Monday as all the news was breaking. Man that whole thing with the changes coming frequently to the store was all kinds of messed up. I remember missing the start and catching it maybe 30 or 40 min in confused why they were only showing replays. In the past when someone died they had a live show, then I flipped to CNN. |
