Researching this over and over, seems like you can really tell which fans may have never heard of AJ. Either that, or they're just really chill and thinking "good, good. Excellent" like a Bond villain

The camera was on Reigns' face the whole time, Vince must have been jerking off backstage and forgot to go back to AJ.

Who'd put the "B" production team on one of the big PPV's of the year?

Reminded me of that Impact where Styles' face-reveal/joining the Main-Event Mafia was borked a little by the director not knowing what the f*** good timing was.
In other interesting news, 40% of the MeM vs A&8s 10-man match now work, or recently worked, in WWE.

Yeah one of the main items on the splash page for WWE is this footage showing how AJ's entrance should have been.

Pretty much what I said it should've been.
Apparently I'm better than their B-team.

I like the nod at the end of the video with AJ looking around going "so this is what a sold out crowd in an American arena feels like!" FTFY due to NJPW and all.

Even that is kinda botched. Too many awkward cuts between the aisle and Roman, particularly at the moment where "Phenomenal" appears on-screen and the fans go apeshit. We don't need to see Roman's reaction.

If a thread with this name popped up in this exact section just a few years ago, everything would be a lot more awkward.

Still even with the botched camera angles you can't deny how big that pop was

Here's my theory, and it doesn't involve "the B team of the largest sports entertainment company in the world botched"
it's "WWE still thinks AJ Styles is a minor leaguer and didn't think the crowd would react" and now they're scrambling to save face

We don't need to see Roman's reaction. Disagree. Showing that the current champion knows who this guy is gives Styles immediate credibility.

For all the times we go "Nobody will react because nobody knows who he is"... we sure get it wrong a lot. That said, it's probably because they're smart enough to debut these guys in "smarky" cities and/or at bigger PPVs (which often attracts the "smarky" crowd). (Now watch as they debut Nakamura in Corpus Christi just to prove me wrong)

That debut was well Dunn. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I get that it's a live show and sometimes there's production botches with camera angles. However since WWE is scripted, there's no reason to be surprised and be caught off guard when something happens. If it happens every now and then, I would not be so pissed off. However, this happens all the freaking time to the point there's no excuse for it.
The only way I can think of production being this unprepared for a WWE like show is if the script is made on the fly a la on the fly booking, and that's an even bigger issue.

Or did I imagine that? Disagree. Showing that the current champion knows who this guy is gives Styles immediate credibility. Which would've been fine of Roman could've emoted anything resembling recognition. He didn't, he just went from a "damn, I forgot to put my contacts in" expression that I presume was supposed to be confusion, to a blank stare. Austin reacting to Bret in '97 or HHH reacting to Cactus Jack in '99 it was not. What gave AJ credibility in that moment was the crowd going absolutely insane in a way that rarely happens these days, and we had to look at Roman dying inside because he can't buy a reaction like that. Nice work, Kevin Dunn.
