Punk was the guy that got me interested in wrestling again, but Bryan was the guy that got me invested in a wrestlers story and struggle again, for the first time since the Attitude Era.
I've been far less emotionally invested in wrestling this last year (probably a good thing, honestly) compared to the previous two, and it just won't be the same for me without him. Much love to the guy and I wish him and his family the best as they move forward with his life out of the ring. Thanks for being who you are and being an inspiration by doing things your way, Bryan Danielson, even when critics railed against you for not being big enough or "mainstream" enough. Keep doing you, brother.

So, collects a non-wrestling paycheck until his contract runs out, leaves, unretires on the indies, got it. That depends on how long his contract is. Bryan has already missed so much time that I don't think he'd want to sit home for yet another 1-2 years.

Between him and Punk, WWE's stupid old school views on what makes a star proves how antiquated Vince McMahon's mindset is wrong. The old man has nothing to add to benefit the company anymore.

Part of me hopes they cut a deal where he can wrestle one more match against either a few of the NXT guys (Austin Aries, Hideo, Finn) or AJ Styles

You know, this may be a way to get out of his contract. Don't know how WWE contracts deal with retirement. They'll probably a no compete clause on it, so he doesn't just go to New Japan tomorrow. A podcast I listen to often (Solomonster Sounds Off) suggested that Bryan would probably be likely to accept some kind of deal to allow him to continue working the indies provided he never works a non-WWE televised event. Though it would be highly unlikely that the WWE would sign to something like that, but you never know.

As much as I want it to be a swerve, I also want this man to stay healthy. So of he IS retiring, I hope he doesn't go the Kurt Angle route and destroy himself for some other company. Take the WWE payday, take a trainer job in NXT and get your HOF induction.

I appreciate the years of entertainment he's given me. I was at the Edge retirement Raw, and everyone in my section thought I was crying, but I am sure there will be a lot of people at tonight's show, crying. He's been an amazing talent, and I will ALWAYS respect him for making Connor's last few months of life good ones.

Having first seen him around 2004 and been a fan since, I still never imagined he would hold the world title in WWE, that was like something you booked in EWR. The guy became one of the best in the world and held the biggest prize in wrestling and despite how much I want to see more of him, he has retired before becoming a wreck. Very proud of the man and all that he has done.

If they use him to give an endorsement to Reigns, the crowd will shit all over it. It will come of as extremely transparent like Fast Lane last year.

If this doesn't end with the Authority attacking him and making this whole thing somehow about Roman Reigns, I'll eat a delicious sandwich.

It all seems a bit strange, what with The Miz mentioning him last week. I'll grasp any straw I can reach at this point though.

HBK, Edge, Bryan.
I'm gonna stop picking favourite wrestlers as they always seem to retire early. Bryan seemed like the perfect wrestler for me I liked his look, his moves, his personality, he was initially trained by my favourite wrestler and was from Aberdeen, WA; the hometown of my favourite band.
Sad news, the guy had an intangible that could have easily put him on top of any wrestling company in the world.
The night he rebelled against Bray in the cage was awesome. I haven't heard a crowd that loud since the Attitude Era.
I'd rather the man's health was maintained going forward though. Thanks for the memories Daniel Bryan.

Damn shame. Could see him going into the HOF next year like Edge did.

Well, not like he'd have much choice in the matter, one way or another he'll be sitting at home until his contract expires. He really might as well just make it official given how even being repeatedly cleared they still won't let him come back, and that report that WWE refused to let him out of his contract recently.

You know, this may be a way to get out of his contract. Don't know how WWE contracts deal with retirement. That thought crossed my mind. I believe that's what AJ Lee did. Whatever the case, if this is the end, he had an incredible career. The end of Wrestlemania 30 is one of my favorite wrestling moments ever.

It doesn't suck. It's great news. It's great news that Bryan Danielson can live the rest of his life with his wife and dogs and future children in good health, not in a wheelchair and not (hopefully) with advanced CTE. As a fan would I like to see him more in the ring? Of course but as a human being I'm glad he's doing this. Couldn't have said it better.

Due to medical reasons, effective immediately, I am announcing my retirement. Tonight on Raw, I'll have a chance to elaborate. #gratitude No Eddiej! Don't go!
