Just wondering when this became common practice, maybe 1999 or thereabouts?

The guitar rift from Real American hitting when Hassan and Divari were strangling Shawn Micheals was pretty good.

Any theme that has a strong intro (as all good themes should) can work really well as an 'interrupt promo' device. Bret's slide guitar riff, Austin's smashing glass, The Rock, 'You think you know me', Kane's organ (no, not that one). They're all designed to make the crowd pop. It's one of the things I love about wrestling. You don't get that sort of instant excitement in any other form of entertainment.

I don't think much is better for interrupting a promo than Sherri Martel being brought to orgasm by Shawn Michaels.

It's Hassan. It will always be Hassan. Nothing quite says "Get out of here, I'm taking over your shit" like the Muezzin's call. Heh, it's not a call to prayer or anything like that. Just a bunch of made up, "arabic" sounding words.

Surprisingly, not seeing a lot of love for Sasha's theme in this instance. Why would there be? It is a good theme and all but doesn't really fit here.

It's a shame he never has more of substance or interest to say, because Alberto Del Rio's opening little riff of his theme music is perfect "Hey, interrupting asshole incoming" music.

Just wondering when this became common practice, maybe 1999 or thereabouts? A little earlier. The trend of starting the music off with a noticeable sound started with Austin and the reactions the crowd had to the shattering glass sound. They try to include a similar effect in all the themes to get the crowd to pop as quickly and as loudly as possible. As a side effect, some of them are just really good cues for an interruption.

Too bad they didn't do the theme music interruptions very much back in the '80s. I always thought Dusty's music would have been great for that. Some loudmouth heel like Honkytonk Man or the Genius is in the ring insulting the fans and bragging about how great they are, and then "AAA-MEEEEEEER-I-CAAAAAAAN DREEEEEEEAM!!!" *cowbell*

Owens is pretty good with the high opening riffs. I think when they wrote Ambrose's the intention was for the 'rev up' intro to get the crowd to pop much as they did for glass shatters but I'm just not feeling it.
