Trish at least had some purpose, it turned her face and made Vince a super heel for cheating on his zombified wife.

Trish and Vince made out in front of his comatose wife so that sets a pretty crazy precedent. The Candice thing was just weird because it never really was a storyline. Vince would just do some crazy Vince shit and then go backstage and make out with Candice for a while, it had nothing to do with anything.
