I think people forget how much the WWE revolved around Seth during his title reign to the point where he held before U.S and the WWE title. Yea he was a heel but both he and Roman where the guys the shows were built around. Ambrose is starting to get into where Roman is in terms of getting important storylines/segment weekly.
Anyways this study is probably dubious and of course their are bias in terms of shirts sold. But there is a reason why advertisers target kids as their favorite so if Roman is the #1 choice of theirs (I don't know if he is) that's a pretty good sign. In terms of adult fans, please someone correct me if I'm wrong but WWE isn't having problems selling out PPV venues yet or having major issues for TV shows other than a sparse event here or there. If the above is true then it seems even without booking "their way" people still are paying tickets.
I imagine people pay for the same reason people went to Cubs games when they suck. It's because it is a fun experience that you can only do maybe once a year. Of course they need to cater to more adult fans but they might think Rollins/Ambrose/Brock diva stuff will keep them entertain enough that it doesn't matter who really is on top. Maybe.

It isn't hard to have someone top a marketability survey when you give them a shitload of accomplishments, have them never lose clean and generally make him the face on all the posters and shit.
edit: Seriously, I would have been worried if Roman somehow was doing worse than Ambrose & Rollins thanks to the handicap that he gets.

I wonder if it's a regional thing, because out here in the Northwest Hot Topics, they always have loads of Reigns shirts sitting on the shelves while the Cena, Ambrose, Rollins, and Owens shirts are picked clean.

I bet Cena could be off the rest of the year and still top the charts for 2016. Guy doesn't need to wrestle, and could still make millions. He's been out for months and still has like the most merch for sale on WWE.com.

So far, Reigns is not the flop that (most) people here want him to be. House shows are steady, meaning he's not driving anyone away. Most other metrics (network subs, ratings) rely on the WWE name itself. Merch is nebulous because there's never any raw data.
But he's not moving numbers either. And even though he's doing fine, is that what you want out of the future of your company? It certainly doesn't appear that he'll be getting any hotter anytime soon. I think a lengthy heel turn could make him a major player down the line. Right now, this character is not going to improve the company's numbers and they need that kind of soon because they've been hemorrhaging RAW viewers for the past two years and they're going to negotiate new rights fee eventually.
EDIT: That bit about the shirt retailer is funny because most of the Top Seller lists come from WWE and how much credibility do you give that? They would always list Bryan as 4th or 5th and here he is sitting behind Cena while basically being inactive for 18 months.

Reigns wins all of his matches clean or is screwed out of the win, Ambrose wins matches against midcarders but always loses the big matches (usually clean) and Rollins almost always had to cheat to win. Yes all three have had pretty big pushes but c'mon, Reigns has clearly had a lot stronger one than the other two. Now THAT is bullshit. Seth Rollins didn't win!

To be fair, the survey was taken by Scott Hall. So the results are dubious to say the least.

So how many seconds did it take people reading this thread to realize if Ambrose was pushed the way Reigns is, he'd be outselling him in merch and ALSO not making the show look dumb with a bunch of face boos? I got it in about 2 seconds. Think WWE will figure it out by 2018? They'll figure it out like they did with Brian, when he's on the verge or retirement due to injury.

Since we don't even know what the questions were or who conducted it, the results are meaningless to us. If WWE is doing the survey themselves, they're probably asking the questions in a way that gets desired results. Plus I have secretly taken photos of that survey.
