Final score for the Gauntlet of Fire is... 8/10. The writers finally remembered that Spike works when he helps not when he's the constant butt of the joke. Solid character episode with some good visuals and world building to boot, serving as an effective sequel to Dragon Quest. Loses some points as a few of the beats about Dragons and friendship felt a little similar to Lost Treasure of Griffonstone at points, Ember's turnaround feeling a little too quick, and an ending we all saw coming.
In general it was good to see some dragons outside generic monsters and jerk teenagers but the Dragon Lord completely stole the episode for me. Rarity and Twlight were used just enough to make them work too. In contrast Garble started getting a little grating, though he did make sense as an antagonist and his comeuppance was amusing. Easily the best Spike episode since Inspiration Manifestation, and hopefully a sign of his episodes to come.

I really really liked this episode. 9/10. Easily the best Spike episode in a while.

As often as it was goofy and out of place, I kind of miss the old credits music.
Anyway, I think I'll go.... Seven. Picked up in the second half and I'm inclined to give it a bonus point for it for once being a Spike episode where he had some dignity and that was actually decent.
