More Sting's fault for not coming in sooner. It didn't have to be a match with a 57 year old and a 50 year old...Sting probably could have come in 5 years ago and it would have been passable. This. Imagine Sting/Taker at WM27. That surely would have brought the show's stock up with the fans.

I wasn't interested one bit in Sting vs. HHH. The final result was shittier than I even expected. Might as well have had Vince masturbating mid-ring.
Sting losing to Taker would have gone down MUCH better. It was never gonna be an in-ring masterpiece. That match is more about THE SHOW part of the business.
Well, HHH vs. Sting was about that too...but, in the end, I thought it sucked hard so...
Oh well, entrances would've been bad in the sunlight anyway.
Only excusable if they wanted to keep it for Mania 32. That's understandable. But nope, Vince had NO interest whatsoever...injuries or not. Idiot.

Never cared to see the match outside of the spectacle that would be their entrances. It's a shame Sting got hurt, because Taker & Sting vs Bray & Luke at Survivor Series would've been infinitely more appealing than trotting out Kane again.
I think if there was a sensible time to do a one-on-one, it would've been Sting choosing to sign with WWE over TNA in 2010-ish when he returned in phenomenal shape and won the title.

No, if only because of Sting's injury. Now, if Sting had been healthy this year and they still kept him away from Taker, then yeah. But he needed to face Triple H last year due to the 2014 Survivor Series (granted he should have won).

It's definitely a missed opportunity, but I can't call it "inexcusable". It's definitely way more on Sting's head than anybody. He was pointlessly obstinate for too many years, and now it'll probably never happen, and it it does, it's gonna suck.

If it's booked right it doesn't matter if Sting loses. Look at Hulk Hogan v The Rock. The occasion and spectacle sold that match in the end not any specific outcome. (And if Vince had the benefit of hindsight he'd probably have put Hogan over.)

You know how Sting interfered in that match to start a program with HHH? Should have had him interfere in Lesnar/Taker instead. Saved the Streak so HE could end it. Disagree strongly with this. So Brock just says "aw shucks" and lets it happen? You do this and Brock would have to wrestle Sting and that would be downright irresponsible. Then you have to book a year of these old painted up coots talking shit for a year to build to a match that would certainly not live up to expectations. Here's how I'd have done it. That Taker/Brock match goes off pretty much the way it did, with Taker looking completely out of it. Brock clearly would have been the winner, but Sting interferes allowing Taker to pick up the desperation win. Heyman and Brock are pissed, but since it's the Streak at Mania, it's not like they can book another match at the next PPV. That boat has sailed. Heyman can talk up how after so many F5's, the pin would have been academic, and Brock wouldn't have lost any steam. Brock lost his chance to end Taker's streak, but he'll settle for ending Sting's WWE run. That match is booked for later that same night (a night where D-Bry celebrated his title win, Warrior made his epic speech, and the crowd was a candidate for best ever). Match starts. They lock up. Sting blocks Brock's suplex attempts. Lights go out. It's Taker. Taker low-blows Lesnar, becoming Captain Cockpunch more than a year earlier than before. Taker grabs Sting by the throat, lights go out, Sting's gone. Taker looks confused, turns around right into suplex from Lesnar. Summerslam is Taker vs Sting (with Sting winning) and Lesnar vs Cena. And from there, the timelines pretty much go back to normal. Lesnar becomes champ, but loses to Seth at Mania 31. Sting (and the nWo for some reason) comes up short against HHH (dressed like the Terminator?) and DX. Taker costs Lesnar his rematch a few months later. Cap'n Cockpunch vs Lesnar series happens. Sting tries to take the WWE title off of Seth but comes up short and retires at the HoF before Mania 32. The only major difference is that the Streak was on the line for Shane/Taker.

I just never understood why this was such a dream match. Cuz they both have scary entrances? They are very different characters. Sting being the vigilante that targets the Authority and has to face Triple H is arguably a better storyline than anything they could've done with Taker. They just executed it poorly. Because even more than Hogan or Cena, Taker was/is WWE, and Sting was WCW.

Not having Taker VS Sting is not inexcusable. Sting not going over in a single match during his time in WWE is what's inexcusable.

people complaining about age and saying we all want the guys they were in the year 2000 isn't exactly true.
Watch Rock vs. Hogan at Wrestlemania on mute. Not the best match technically, but the crowd made it amazing.
That's what would happen with this match. From the build, to seeing two iconic stars in the ring before WM, to the entrances (assuming done right and Sting had better music), to just the electricity that would be in the crowd at 'Mania for the match. It would be a Wrestlemania moment in and of itself. Y'know how they just show the looking back and forth at the crowd staredown between Rock and Hogan? But they show nothing else in highlights? That'd be this.
No reason it didn't happen last year. No reason he had to come in and fight HHH which served no purpose. Taker wanted the match as far as I've heard, and I know Sting wanted the match.
Methinks if Vince wasn't in charge we would have gotten the match. Say what you want about HHH, but judging by NXT and the times he's butted heads with Vince (turning Reigns heel comes to mind) he actually tends to listen to the fans.

I'm way over it
2011 was the last chance to do it maybe, and I was excited to see it happen...then I moved on
Sting had the chance to join Vince years and years ago and it didn't pan out (pretty sure the many dates in WWE were a problem)

Well, Sting's done now. At least for his health's sake I hope he is. Pretty sure he will stick to his word

I don't want to see two broken down dudes gas themselves out for fifteen minutes. We saw how well that can go at WM 32.

The biggest problem with the Sting/HHH storyline was that after spending months building it up as Sting trying to take down the Authority, they suddenly decided to change it to WCW vs. WWE/MNW crap just a couple weeks before Mania, because apparently even over 14 FREAKIN' YEARS after the MNW ended, they're still not over it.

Not really because Sting constantly said this isn't about WCW ... it's been 14 years why the hell would I be bitter about that. It wasn't really until the show that it became the absolute story...

Racist comments, sex tapes and embarrassing reality TV show and all. Hulk Hogan is the biggest name in wrestling ever and second isn't even close.

Not really.
If the possibility of a match between them could of taken place around 6 to 10 years ago than sure its a big loss. But in 2015/16 since both of them are well over 50 and are broken down to point where it looks like their bodies are made of glass then I'm not going to lose any sleep over it not ever taking place.
