Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. All the hype, and coverage. ZZZZZZZ Hopefully everyone recovered from that. Hard to believe it's already been a year.

It's kinda absurd how much money this ended up making. Just goes to show how many people decide to buy shows at the last minute.

I want to say it was something like 10:30 p.m. and the fight was scheduled to start at 11:15 and I was at a friend's house and a group of us were sitting at a fire in his backyard when I brought up the fight. After about 10 minutes of discussion and hype, we went inside and ordered the event. To this day, I still profusely apologize to him for that additional $100 charge on his cable bill. Granted, it was five of us watching and we all chipped in $20, but I still feel like I owe him. I want to say it was around the seventh or eighth round when the realization hit us that this wasn't going to be a fight at all, it was going to be 12 rounds of seeing who could stand around the longest and take the least amount of damage. I've never felt more bilked out my money in my life and I saw "Black Knight" in theaters.

If you bought the $100 unlimited Regal Card for Batman V Superman, that might have gave it a run for it's money.

We had a Derby Party during the day and watched the fight at night, a long day to be sure. I'm certain a big reason why out of the 20 or so of us still hanging around a half dozen fell asleep, and some went to go play darts.

When people ask me why I prefer wrestling to boxing or MMA, I point to fights like this. With wrestling you generally have a good idea of what you're gonna get, depending on the talents involved. In legitimate combat sports you could get a fight that's over in 14 seconds, or that drags on for the full time limit with next to nothing happening.

Forget that, 1 year ago we got one of the greatest game 7s of all time when the Clippers beat the Spurs.

TBF, people that actually followed boxing pretty much knew they were getting with this one. It was Mayweather, a defensive wizard who does everything he can to avoid getting hit, against a past his prime opponent in Pacquaio who ended up retiring this year. It's not like they had a grudge against each other. No matter what anybody says, both guys agreed to the fight because it was such a huge payday that they'd be fools to not do the fight at some point. It's really only casual fans and people that bought into the hype at the last minute that were pissed at what went down. All that being said, the shit was boring and I agree with your point.

Mayweather had a HUGE fight with De La Hoya which went much the same way. He ran, Oscar pushed the fight, Mayweather pointed himself a very unimpressive decision. Even several casual boxing fans forgot about that fight, and it was the biggest since Lewis retired. Arguably bigger, in terms of cash flow. Albeit, Oscar was way old by that time. Mayweather is what he is, and it was really easy to predict what that fight was gonna be. Also, most times when the fight is over quickly, people are satisfied. There are exceptions, like the UFC on FOX debacle. But for the most part I think there's a similar ratio in big let downs across all 3. Look at last year's Wrestlemania.

I still don't know what people thought they were going to get. I don't even follow boxing but I still knew exactly how this fight was going to go just from the bits and pieces I've picked up peripherally over the years.

Boxing lost the last shread of credibility it had when three judges declared Lewis Vs Holyfield a draw. There was Don King front an centre. "They must fight again" What everyone heard and what Don meant was "I want a second payday"
Its been fading away ever since and I've never even considered watching any fight. Boxing is fake.

And I remember how excited I was instead for the return of boxing to network television.
This was the epitome of a money grab, as the match didn't even come close to delivering the expectations that were placed upon it.

It honestly should have happened 09/2010.
I didn't even care in 2015 and skipped it.
