Me and my wife bust into uproarious laughter every time we see the trailer. Is that supposed to be our reaction?

In the meantime, do check out the new episodes of Robots in Disguise instead. They have COMBINERS now!

Also why is Optimus Prime a murdering psychopath? Is it wrong to want a hero with great qualities and doesn't come off like a douche? I understand the anti-hero is a thing, brooding characters are I guess more relatable, however, Optimus with each sequel has just become more and more of a dick. Meanwhile you have a hero who actually cares about being a hero who is still topping the box offices while this was released.

Just got out of the theater. I liked it. Not my favorite of the series, but I was entertained. Movie needs to be seen for Anthony Hopkins' performance, alone. Let's just say I have some doubts about the sobriety of it. Oh he wasn't sober. The man compared Michael Bay to the Spielberg's and Kubrick's even though he couldn't tell you at all what the hell was going on.

Damn - another huge hit for Bay.
I mean, people love to crap all over him but the guy makes non-stop hits. The TF films really aren't my flavor but the demand for these movies is HUGE.

Say what you want about him, he does know what he's doing.

So I ended up seeing it just due to morbid curiosity over the overwhelmingly negative press it's been getting. I found it just more boring than anything else. A Transformers movie with barely any Transformers for a big chunk of it. Also there were a few plot related questions that I don't quite understand, such as why did the good guys want to get the staff if it was already protected and was the dangerous thing the villians needed to enact their plan, or why was Galvatron back to being Megatron again and what happened to his crazy nanobot cube stuff from the last film. But in all honesty I don't know if I'm all that interested in getting proper answers either. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) I also hated the constant aspect ratio shifts, I couldn't not notice it after a while. There doesn't even seem to be any rhyme or reason for it either, it just happened at random cuts.

I also hated the constant aspect ratio shifts I never noticed any shifts. Apparently it's a Bay thing. I didn't notice it in the last one, but it was bad here. I just learned that it was also in the trailers too, so you can see it for yourself here, especially towards the end. It was even happening in scenes where people were just talking. It was annoying as hell.

Calling this a huge hit is incredibly generous. It had the lowest domestic opening of any of the films and will likely disappear quickly with Despicable Me 3 coming this weekend and Spider-Man: Homecoming after that. Its international take has been solid so far, but it'll likely need to more than double its budget at the box-office with the huge marketing campaign it launched to even begin turning a profit.

The advertising budget was reportedly gargantuan.

Already made it's production budget back in one weekend seems like a good start to me. Plus the last two films in the franchise grossed over $1billion. These films aren't really a domestic draw anyway. The domestic take-home was less than a quarter of AOE's profit. LK is more or less in the same position AOE's was after week one from an international standpoint. It'll get $500K easily, but I would be surprised if it hit $1b. Probably more in the 800-900K range - more than enough to be considered a big hit. These films usually have the same turnout. Whether its Marvel, F&F, TF or whatever. They're pretty much guaranteed money-makers regardless of quality.

From everything I have heard it is under-performing in America, but it's doing really well in China.

I liked it better than Age of Extinction. The action and the racist comedy was toned down many dials, making it pleasurable to watch almost.
God forbid but I was actually invested in the story until it lead to the usual ending we have seen in the last four films.
Sir Anthony Hopkins stole the show and was a hoot. A couple of returning characters to the franchise and Sam Whitwicky mentioned but I somewhat missed Megan Fox and wished she would cameo.

Well I watched this yesterday and found it to be easily the weakest TF film since the second one.
Though if there was one thing that they did improve on from the previous one was toning down all the gratuitous Chinese market pandering that got out on hand on AOE.
