I'm pumped about seeing this tomorrow. I'm going in as a straight man, but I'm hoping to leave as a proud gay man. Well, as long as you don't leave as a clock. Or worse, a teacup. With a huge crack in it's head/face. I love the joke that whenever Chip became a person again, shouldn't he have had a massive head wound?

I gots me and my daughter's tickets! She is hyped! She wants to wear her Belle dress up dress to the theater. She also wants me to wear mine. I'm probably gonna do it. She really wants us to. DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! We did it! People thought we were cute. She wore Belle's ball gown and I wore the blue and white regular dress. We LOVED it!!!! My daughter was completely enraptured watching it. And yes people were singing out loud. It was a blast.

You would think they would at least try something new

You would think they would at least try something new Well truth be told a studio attempted to do a new version of Beauty and The Beast, it failed miserably. Only reason I am sure Disney did this is because of how successful Jungle Book was. I don't see why anyone would be surprised that the film is scene for scene the original in live action format. Lion King is most likely going to be the same way as well.

At least with Jungle Book it was different It's been awhile since I've watched the original Jungle Book cartoon. A friend of mine told me the live action film was basically almost exactly like the cartoon. I can't say as I refuse to watch films where animals are getting hurt or killed(even though I know they're CGI).

You would think they would at least try something new Most fans of it wanted just a live action carbon copy. The theater I saw it in everyone seemed to be pretty damn happy with it. Now I really really want them to do The Little Mermaid.

I think they'd piss more people off by changing things as far as things like Little Mermaid and Lion King go. For some reason I think I remember hearing Mary Poppins is more a sequel then a remake.

On the other hand, as I said, if it keeps them away from doing another Maleficent (and hopefully they are thinking of cancelling the Cruella movie, because an animal killer is SUCH a prime candidate for the antihero/misunderstood makeover!), then I'm all for it. At the end of the day, I'd be interested to compare how the LA Disney adaptions did at the box office.

As awful as Maleficent was I at least respect it for doing something different rather than just being a carbon copy of the original. I just despise remakes that are carbon copies, If they're awful I'll still have a modicum of respect for trying something new.

My review from Facebook:
Couple of things before my review - I'm pretty much married to the original. As much as some of the women in my life have disputed it, I am very much tied to the character of the Beast - good heart, kind soul but oy, that temper. That said, the original is just special, near and dear to me.
But, it must be put aside because this cannot be that and it would be unfair to compare. Yes, homages and touches abound, but this is its own unique thing.
It took me a bit of time to warm to the movie, accepting the new and letting the old have it's place. Once done, this movie is really quite good, adding layers to the original story with its own unique touches. Few lyric changes on some songs (and I can't tell you how strange it is to hear Gaston sung by Olaf the Snowman) and some new songs that I'm afraid I must be hard on and say they do not hold a candle to the original.
All but one.
They gave the Beast a GEM of a song toward the end and it's easily the best new thing they added. The standard was set by If I Can't Love Her in the Broadway version. This is better and within two bars, I was wanting to sing along. It's that good.
So, all that being said, this too had a unique place. And perhaps some will discover the original via the new. It's good, go see it and, in due time, it will have an honored place in my collection.

Like most kids of my generation Beauty and the Beast is part of the holy quartet of Disney movies. I went into it not expecting completely new songs. At most I thought they'd use the deleted songs for the original that were later used in the Broadway version.

At most I thought they'd use the deleted songs for the original that were later used in the Broadway version. I was forewarned that they wouldn't in advance, that it would be all new. That said, you can hear notes from Home a few times during the movie. I was crushed to lose If I Can't Love Her until I heard Evermore. It fixed the one thing missing from the original - the Beast is the only character to not have a song expressing how he feels, save for the few lines in Something There. Evermore fixes that.
