TL;DR Match Listings: Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano v TM-61 (Shane Thorne and Nick Miller) No Way Jose v Johnny Vandal #1 Contender Triple Threat Match: Nia Jax v Carmella v Alexa Bliss
That's right, it's Wednesday again and that means ONLY one thing. It's time for NXT, coming to you again from the usual home base at Full Sail University with the first episode from a new, albeit short, block of tapings. We are two weeks away from Takeover: Revenge, and tonight might be where the card starts to fill up some more beyond the NXT Championship and NXT Tag Team Championship matches.
Our main event tonight pits three of NXT's top women against each other in a triple threat bout to determine the new #1 Contender for Asuka's NXT Women's Championship. Nia Jax comes in with major momentum, coming off a destructive win over Bayley that left the fan favourite nursing a possible knee injury... One that likely took her out of calculations for this match. That said, don't discount the opposition, with Carmella coming in off the back of some winning form of late and Alexa Bliss discarding Blake And Murphy to focus on her solo career. Who will claim their shot and step up to The Empress Of Tomorrow at Takeover: Revenge?
In tag team action, we will see the first TV appearance of the tag team now known as TM-61. Shane Thorne and Nick Miller took Japan by storm over the last few years with excellent tag team bouts against some of the best opposition that the Land Of The Rising Sun had to offer, and now they've come to NXT to stake their claim for the NXT Tag Team Championship currently held by American Alpha. But the hard-hitting tandem of Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano stand in the way of first-up victory. Can this mighty Western Australian duo put an end to Ciampa and Gargano's win streak and start their own?
And finally, fiesta favourite No Way Jose enters the ring one more time as he takes on Johnny Vandal in singles competition.
All that, and Austin Aries seeks to throw his name into title contention, TONIGHT on NXT!

Pulling for Bliss tonight.
Jax will probably win, but, meh. I hope Alexa pulls it off.

Have I missed the reason why Bayley isn't getting a rematch? I know Nia beat her last week but still doesn't the champ automatically get a rematch

I know Nia beat her last week but still doesn't the champ automatically get a rematch I'm assuming that she just hadn't invoked her rematch clause yet, and with Jax giving her a storyline knee injury, she's currently medically unable to do so.

I don't mind Bayley taking a back seat for a few weeks with a storyline injury. NXT needs to see what their other women can do when asked to step up. And I really want to see Alexa Bliss be given that chance.
But she's a heel who needs backup. She was great with Blurphy as her lackeys, and if they're done, she needs to recruit someone else. She plays the alpha bitch cheerleader so well, but that character works best when she's got a posse to play to.
Of course, Jax will probably win anyway.

They really need to start building up new girls.
Carmella is getting there, but she still isn't very good. Alexa is a great personality and her facial expressions are brilliant, but she's worse than Carmella. I've heard good things about this match so hopefully this'll take them both to the next level.
Jax has potential, she had a decent story match with Bayley, and I think she could have a good match with Asuka. But it's a shame to see someone so different finally in the women's division and she's pretty underwhelming so far.
Peyton and Billie are too good to be playing jobbers. They're the next two who need to be built up.
And where's Athena?
I know this is development for the main roster, but it's a shame after being so strong that NXT's division is in a bit of a lull.

It's rather frustrating that I still haven't found out whether or not Kay's injured since I mentioned before that her last match happened back in early April at a house show, and she hasn't even been booked on those since. She's still active on Twitter, so I don't know what's going on.

I'm all kinds of pumped about that tag match. I'm also very intrigued by the main event. Nia has shown she can do some great stuff with Bayley, but it's really Alexa and Carmella's time to make the jump to that level. Everyone is constantly saying Alexa should get a title feud soon, and I just haven't seen it in her in-ring work yet. Not even close, really. Fantastic character but she hasn't had a single impressive showing yet, IMO. Carmella, I think, has been improving greatly in the ring and I think she's closer to being ready than Alexa is, but not completely there yet.
It's a good time to showcase all three of those women and see who is really ready to step into the gigantic shoes Bayley is going to leave when she heads to the main shows. Especially with people like Athen and Peyton Royce nipping at their heels to finally get on TV.

The best part of this show is No Way Jose. He'll be the guy to defeat Roman Reigns 5 WrestleManias from now!

Loved the videos for Joe and Finn. The Finn one was interesting for me as he didn't mention the demon and said we don't know what Finn Balor is capable of. So no more demon?

With Alexa breaking with her boys, my bet is on her going solo as #1 contender.

Also as said demon he's 2-0 against Joe. Hopefully they'll play that up during the match. Questioning Balor's choice of not being the demon.
