I really, really don't like the looks of it from the trailer. No way in hell I would pay over $200 for it. I think it's going to be a massive failure. But, being a big Nintendo fan, I hope I'm wrong in every way and it's awesome. I can tell I'm getting old because all I could think while watching the trailer was, "Goddammit! Why won't they just drop the stupid gimmicks and release a 'real' console again! *shakes fist at cloud*" because their last real console is their worst selling one

I'd say about $350 at launch. And what's gimmicky about this one? There's no motion controls, tablets, dual screens, etc. that developers are forced to use when making games. You just grab the controller and play. It's just that now you can play it wherever you want.

My only gripe is they tend to put out hardware that is far less powerful than it could be.

Yeah I like the gimmick for this one cuz it doesn't get in the way of playing the games. If you never wanna play it outside, you can. It's not like the Wii where games had to tack on waving your f***in arms around when it wasn't necessary.

The gimmick with the Switch is "play anywhere, however you want it". Want to play at home on TV? Cool. Want to play on the go? Sweet. Want to play multiplayer with your friends? Bitching.

You can get a X-Box One or a PS4 cheaper. You really don't see what's gimmicky about this? I'm genuinely not trying to be an asshole when I ask that.

I just realized one huge thing in favor of the Switch. It is legit the first console you can play while taking a crap on a toilet. Before that was a domain for handhelds and mobile devices.
You can now play Skyrim while taking the Browns to the Super Bowl.

Also in favor of the Switch is that the "opposition" isn't really taking a full step into a next generation of consoles, power wise. Yeah, PS4 Pro and Scorpio are a thing, but they are still PS4s and Xbox Ones, so the 3rd party companies still have to make their games play on the regular non-enhanced consoles, which seems right in the Switch's ballpark. So yeah, I'm casually optimistic about the capability of having actual 3rd party support for this thing.

Of course PS4 and X-Box One are cheaper right now considering that they've been around for about 3 years now and are coming out with updated systems. If you recall, the launch price for the PS4 and X-Box One were $399 and $499 respectively. In fact, the PS4 Pro is $399 right now. And what's gimmicky besides the portability option and the controller setups? What's so bad about those?

In theory, and again this is just in theory, Nintendo has just kind of future-proofed themselves with the Switch. It is safe to assume the actual system itself is the tablet thing, since it is the only common item in all of its play configurations. As such, if Nintendo sticks to this design style from now on, you should just have to swap out the tablet X amount of years down the road. Say after 5 or so years they release a new Switch tablet with a stronger custom Tegra chipset and a stronger CPU. If that new tablet can play the games of the old Switch tablet and use the same controllers and such, Nintendo could easily release an SKU of the new Switch tablet that is just the tablet itself, no controllers or dock(though this depends on what the dock actually does beyond putting the display on TV and charge the tablet), and they can sell that to the people who already had a Switch so they can upgrade for a cheaper price. In effect basically becoming like a gaming rig that you swap out the CPU and GPU of every 4-5 years.

To me, $250 is fair. There aren't any bells and whistles that will drive up costs and with cartridge based gaming, you have smaller motherboards and less need for cooling systems. I think Nintendo finally got the gimmick right here where you aren't flailing around like an idiot or being dependent on a bulky console for your entire gameplay experience. My issues are the controllers & the system logistics. A lot of developees jumped on the Wii for its unorthodox style & the Wii U and fled 1-2 years after launch due to poor sales. Because gamers care about graphics it may be important that the system is on par with current gen. Still... Don't expect Grand Theft Auto or WWE games any time soon.

Since they showed NBA2k in the trailer, I would expect the next WWE game to, at least, be considered for the console.

Actually those might have a chance since Take-Two is on board for the Switch. That and the video shown footages of NBA 2K and isn't like we never had a WWE or GTA game on a Nintendo system before.

The last WWE game on a Nintendo console was WWE 13 & there have only been 3 GTA games on Nintendo systems; all on portable. I'm not saying it won't happen, but it'll take a while.

Well, I don't think we'll have a new GTA for the next 3 years at least, so yeah, no GTA for a while.
WWE, however, would be much easier. Yearly releasing games, new console with a new user friendly concept and companies looking to maximize profits from releasing the same game on 3 or 4 different platforms seem to go well together.

The one thing I'm wondering is how that whole thing about splitting the controller for multiplayer works. Like you're telling me someone can play NBA with the left side of the controller being sideways? How?

The last WWE game on a Nintendo console was WWE 13 & there have only been 3 GTA games on Nintendo systems; all on portable. I'm not saying it won't happen, but it'll take a while. It all depends on how powerful the hardware is and how easy it is to port games to it. Although, if this gets a nothing install base, then they might have a business reason for not supporting it. Something that hasn't been talked about much is that Nvidia has announced that the console will be powered by a custom version of the Tegra chipset, which is an ARM based processor/graphics chipset that's focused on delivering power for gaming while still not killing the battery. Since ARM is what's used by Android and iOS phones, support for it shouldn't be too hard to get (as a lot of developers are aware/familiar with it, unlike the Wii U that was PowerPC based). And since it's a lot more of a gimmickless console (although that's still up for debate), it should help third party support (no one has to develop for features that are just on the Switch).
