So is this Harvest Moon with Dragons and fights? Yes. The series actually started as a Harvest Moon spinoff. Makes sense. Xseed is the OG Harvest Moon company before the publisher stole the name right?

So, the Monster Hunter direct begins with... the exact same trailer we saw at the beginning of the showcase.

Basically the games are made by Marvelous, they were originally published by Natsume under the Harvest Moon name. When they switched to XSEED publishing them they switched to the Japanese title Story of Seasons.

Monster Hunter Rise has clearly been inspired by World, but built for the Switch's hardware.

Palamutes (Canynes) are for the dog lovers.
But, I'll always be a Palico fan.

Not really into Monster Hunter so this direct was pretty meh. I did not think it was bad, there was just nothing that was really for me. Now waiting for people to shit all over it since there really wasn't any blockbuster announcement besides Monster Hunter.

Oh, I'm getting those amiibo!
Though, they just spoiled the Magnamalo.

This one seems to be going over better than the last couple since it at least announced some new things instead of just kind of, "Look at this stuff you already knew about!" But yeah, nothing for me either really, just kind of was what it was, though I didn't really have any expectations of it anyway.

This blew the previous two Partner Showcases out of the water just for having a variety of mainline games to it. I'm most excited for the Ori 2 port, but this actually felt worth of a Direct rather having elements that probably could have been Twitterdropped and had the same effect.

Nothing blew me away but I guess there didn’t really need to be. The two Monster Hunter games coming look neat and I liked the look of some other stuff.
What was cool was that there were a lot of games announced as out today like Ori 2 and Hades which doesn’t seem that common for Directs like this outside of first party titles so that’s a good way of getting people to play stuff right away along with that Disgea 5 demo for Nintendo Online users.

I feel like Ori might be something I'd like under other circumstances but I've pretty much completely stopped paying attention to artsy plot-heavy 2D platformers. It's just a ridiculously oversaturated part of the genre at this point.

It's just a ridiculously oversaturated part of the genre at this point. You do have to be selective with them. I've viewed them largely as various indie Metroidvanias; look for the very best reviewed and don't play them back to back to avoid burnout.

Naturally there are a ton of people who are browbeating anyone who doesn't see Monster Hunter as guaranteed for Smash Bros. out of this and treating this like confirmation that MH is 100% in. Because that totally hasn't bitten them on the ass with Tom Nook and Doomguy and all of the BotW Champions chatter last week and...
In particular seeing a lot of, "It got its OWN DIRECT! What else could that mean?!" even though this was the tenth Monster Hunter Direct, going back to before Smash Bros. 4 had even come out.

The thing is that Monster Hunter had base content in Smash Ultimate and even after this big announcement did not have a Smash announcement with it. I cant' help but feel that if Capcom and Nintendo wanted a MH fighter in, it'd be in by now. And its not even needed as a promotional pick given that shilling a portable Monster Hunter to a Japanese fanbase (or even an American one these days) is about as necessary as trying to advertise water to a thirsty man. The concept alone will sell it.

For those of you with the Mario 3d all stars digital preorder all preloaded, the day 1 1.0.1 patch is up now.
I have no idea what it changes or fixes because we still have a day to go. But it's there.

But it's there. There was whisperings that Sunshine was running a little choppily with review footage and what have you, so it sounds like that's what it may have fixed, plus other minor hiccups.

I didn't stick around for the Monster Hunter direct for any Smash Bros. announcement. I stuck around because I wanted to hear about Monster Hunter content. Anyone who thought they were getting a character reveal was just asking for more disappointment in their lives.

I will say that given Nintendo's been doing a big announcement every week for the past month and a half that there might be a Smash announcement as early as next week. With the major first party stuff revealed, another partner showcase not scheduled for another month, and no indie directs in sight, a Sakurai Presents Fighter 7 could easily be the big announcement at any point in the the next three weeks.

I'd imagine we'll get one next week, though when you release it gets a little sketchy; Hero and Joker release on the 25th, but that might be too quick of a turnaround to get all the marketing and stuff for the new character out for. Do you put out a patch without them then another with them a week later, or do you just put out Amiibos that are completely useless for a week or two?
