The only real problems I have with Project M are just how much the fanbase acts like it's the only acceptable way to play Brawl and some of the egos that popped up around it.
That said I prefer BrawlEX anyway.

What is this? A game that's on sale that isn't Super Mario Party? I mean, once again there's Mario Tennis, Yoshi, and Super Mario U Deluxe, but hey, good news for Fire Emblem fans.

$27 for NSMBU is pretty tempting.
And yeah, anyone who hasn't picked up Three Houses absolutely should at that price, it's well worth it.

Well damn.
I may have to actually go to GameStop on Friday to pick up at least one of those.

The eShop's Black Friday sale is live. Actually super underwhelming; only things that really stand out to me are Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Catherine, and Catherine's discounted all the time anyway. I'd say the summer sale they did a few months back was substantially better than this one... actually really weird that Astral Chain and New Super Mario Bros. were on sale in that one but aren't in this one.

I wanted to get Attack on Titan 2 because it’s finally on sale but I don’t think the damn thing will fit on my Switch or SD card at the moment. I’m also tempted to pick up Divinity: Original Sin 2 but it looks like a game I’d either get super into or find impossible to get into and never pick up again. I’d also like to replay Tokyo Mirage Sessions but I’m pretty sure they didn’t add much content at all so it wouldn’t quite be worth it.

From what I can find they added a new dungeon, some new side stories, some speeding up aspects of the combat, and Phantom Thieves costumes. Personally I bought the game on the Wii U (well, more I bought a used New 3DS and Planet Robobot and got a free game with them, and I went with it because Gamestop didn't have FE Echoes in stock), intended to patch it to be uncensored but then couldn't find my copy to actually do so, and then just kind of never got around to it, so I've wondered about grabbing it on the Switch but haven't wondered about it enough to actually do so. I might go for it this time but I dunno, iffy on it. Honestly I'm still kind of trying to figure out who the hell the market for this game is supposed to be. It's no wonder it flopped twice because it's a crossover between two series that don't really logically fit together at all, and said crossover takes the form of not particularly resembling either of them. Then they went and censored a bunch of it when both series have pretty devout fanbases who are exactly the types to hold grudges over that kind of thing... as evidenced by how the announcement of it caused sales of the Wii U version to spike in Japan.

I was really irritated at the game when it was first announced just as a diehard FE fan and Megami Tensei fan who loathes most of the brain dead anime aspects both franchises tended towards in recent years, and the initial reveal made it seem like the worst possible scenario for it had come true, but while the characters are mostly mediocre and the story is wholly forgettable the gameplay itself is a freaking blast so I’d recommend checking it out just on a that basis alone. Just the moment to moment to gameplay is some of the most enjoyable I’ve seen in a JRPG, kind of a precursor to how flashy and fun Persona 5 was, plus the soundtrack has some pretty catchy songs. $40 is a fair ask all things considered, they should have launched it at that price IMO. Also yeah, I have no clue why they changed anything for this release because by and large the only people who would buy this game in the first place are also the kind of person who would get incredibly mad about covering up some cleavage

I've definitely heard that the gameplay of TMS is really solid, but the central premise feels right out of the Wii U dark age where Nintendo was putting forth games that for the imaginary audiences they believed wanted stuff like a FE/SMT crossover that has little to do with either in its core concept. Its amazing that Atlus which got launched into the stratosphere with Persona 5 a year after, and Nintendo which has made the Switch a console with strong JRPG sales both managed the read the room so badly.

There's a few things I may grab for the sale, but it's a pitiful output this year on Nintendo's eShop. I'll likely just spend most of my money on Microsoft.

I hope there end up being some decent deals on games for the Switch this Black Friday. My Switch is collecting dust at this point. I thought the new Paper Mario was awful, so I never beat it and never went back to my Switch outside of playing a few NES or SNES games when I'm really bored.

I can talk shit about Sticker Star and Color Splash all day (and Paper Jam for that matter) but personally I actually liked Origami King. I can certainly understand not being into it - the combat system is less something you have fun with and more something you tolerate so it kind of depends how on board you are with it from a writing and setpiece perspective - but it did work for me, even if it's certainly not on the level of the first three.

At the very least Origami King seems to have some novelty to it, at least in terms of the setting. If that's the base they use for future Paper Mario releases I likely won't be interested, but if I can still get Bug Fables games going forward, I can't really complain about PM ultimately trying a different direction.

So I'm spoiling myself and buying a Switch on Black Friday. Any game recommendations? Definitely I'll be getting Mario Kart (the "deluxe" version comes with the console). Any other good Mario games I should snag? Is there just a regular Mario game? What else should I be looking at? More into the classic chars (Donkey Kong, Yoshi, etc). But open to other cool stuff.

There's Super Mario Bros Deluxe if you want Classic Mario gameplay. Another good game is Odyssey, and there's Mario All Stars which has 64, Sunshine and Galaxy on it.
And if you really want classic old school Nintendo games, become a member of Nintendo Switch Online, (three months for 7$ and a year for 20$) and you can download the NES Collection and SNES Collection for free
