So I'm spoiling myself and buying a Switch on Black Friday. Any game recommendations? Definitely I'll be getting Mario Kart (the "deluxe" version comes with the console). Any other good Mario games I should snag? Is there just a regular Mario game? What else should I be looking at? More into the classic chars (Donkey Kong, Yoshi, etc). But open to other cool stuff. In terms of mailine Mario games your main options are... 2D - Mario Maker 2, New Super Mario Bros. U (and the NES games and World are all included with an online subscription) 3D - 3D All-Stars, Odyssey Of the 3D options I'd moreso recommend 3D All-Stars, though Odyssey is still pretty damn great in its own right and you'd hardly be going wrong (though 3D All-Stars will stop being sold in March for some stupid reason so that's a solid reason to prioritize that one). 2D I'd kind of put them about level, NSMB's probably better if you plan to travel much while Mario Maker has theoretically more content, though it kind of gets old after awhile for a number of reasons. In terms of Donkey Kong and Yoshi, DKC 1 & 2 and Yoshi's Island are also included with an online subscription. There's also Tropical Freeze for the former and Crafted World for the latter; both are good but if you want to pick one specifically, go with Tropical Freeze, it's phenomenal. Can't recommend that one enough. I'd say the main games I'd recommend outside of those personally are Fire Emblem: Three Houses (love that game to pieces), Smash Bros. Ultimate, Breath of the Wild, Link's Awakening, Kirby Star Allies (not a gigantic fan of it personally, but it is pretty good and has a similar feel to the other stuff you mentioned), maybe Animal Crossing if you have the patience for it... Some other great games on the console to maybe try out at some point are the Friends of Mineral Town remake, Hyrule Warriors (Complete Edition, I've not gotten Age of Calamity yet), Celeste, Dragon Quest 11 (though admittedly I kind of have a lack of patience with it; I enjoy it quite a bit but of late where I've been at on it has been dragging and I've sort of stalled out on playing it), Luigi's Mansion is worth a look though I feel like it does slide a bit toward the end... I dunno, I'm probably forgetting a ton of stuff, there's a lot on the console to choose from.

There's Super Mario Bros Deluxe if you want Classic Mario gameplay. Another good game is Odyssey, and there's Mario All Stars which has 64, Sunshine and Galaxy on it. And if you really want classic old school Nintendo games, become a member of Nintendo Switch Online, (three months for 7$ and a year for 20$) and you can download the NES Collection and SNES Collection for free
Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for.

If you're fond of 2D platformers, there's a ton of indie games out there to scratch the itch. Yooka Laylee & the Impossible Lair is a particularly good one which is a great companion title to Tropical Freeze.
3D platformers are a bit less in quantity, but are out there as well with the Crash N'Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited, and Hat in Time all standing out as pretty solid.

An anonymous poster has detailed how Nintendo has hurt the Smash community. Several competitive Smash players have verified these claims. www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1srfu4r

Some obvious ones for 2D platformers (on other consoles but still) are Celeste, Cuphead, Hollow Knight and Ori.

I also believe Freedom Planet and Dust: An Elysian Tale are on the system if you want to scratch that Sonic itch.
The former being relevant with Freedom Planet 2 coming potentially next year.

Turns out I could get Golf Story for free using my Gold Nintendo points and the balance I had on my account so I ended up finally getting that.

I really just can't bring myself to feel sympathy for the whole eSports scene. The whole thing to me feels like, no, Nintendo does not owe you the assistance or the courtesy, and that there isn't really any upside for them in playing along. They probably shouldn't be as aggressive about shit as they are, especially with how rabid they are with takedowns of fan projects, but I also don't really see where it's their place to care whether someone can make a living playing Melee.

Really the core issue that stuff like Nintendo's dubious behavior with the competitive scene is not really something that's actively known or understood among general audiences, let alone among countless Switch owners. Certain gaming controversies like loot boxes and micro transactions have crossed over into the mainstream consciousness and there have been consequences from them. Something like the Twitch interference or the C&D towards events is like the bad handling of legacy content/timed availability; among the hardcores its disgraceful but it doesn't stop 3D Mario Collection from selling huge.
The #FreeMelee thing is just too niche as far as grievances go for wide scale change to really happen, at least right now.

I know Abe is his baby and all but Lorne Lanning should consider making a sequel to Stranger's Wrath. It's a fun game.

That, and the Smash scene in general does not have a ton of good will to lean on with a bunch of players. There's the (mostly) unfair jokes about hygiene and how condescending Melee players can be towards Ultimate or Brawl fans, but more seriously, and this is an issue that extends past Melee, there's also the predators that thrived in the community and how nasty that was when it got out. Nintendo seriously need to lighten up in their handling of fan projects, but I don't think Project M fans as of right now can rely on a ton of support from some people.

The UK Cyber deals are up and I hope you like Nintendo games being reduced by 33%!
To be serious, a lot of it seems to align with some of the deals across America so you can get Fire Emblem, Tropical Freeze, Xenoblade 1 and 2 etc.
Just, like...you know...at least Sony reduced The Last of Us Part II by 43% and that came out this year.

I just want to post about how awesome it is that I can turn on my Switch right now, put in a game, and not have to download a massive update to play it.
I got the PS5, turn it on, updates. Get Call of Duty: Cold War, 20 GB update. Turn on the X-Box Series X, updates. That finishes, I put in Yakuza: Like a Dragon and I have to wait for the thing to install. Not only that, there's another 20 GB update to download before I can play it.
Speaking as someone who lives in a very rural area with awful internet speeds (2 MB/s, BABY!), this more or less prevents me from playing for days. God bless Nintendo for just letting you put a game in and play.

So...I may have lost my Switch.
We were packing up things to head back home from the holiday and we ended up giving the Switch inside it's case to my 8-year old stepkid. He's a bit erratic so of course he got distracted with something else and forgot about it somewhere. The best case scenario is that he just left it sitting at my dad's house when he went to grab his coat. Worst case is when we stopped for lunch down the road and it fell out the car somewhere when we were sitting in the car eating.
Trying to get in contact with my dad now to see if it's at the house.
UPDATE: Huzzahs! Called my dad and he found it in the garage (which pretty much doubles as a man cave) so...were just gonna wait until the next time we go down there to get it then. Figure that's a good punishment for the kid.
2ND UPDATE: Okay, change of heart incoming. I had a rough day and a rough drive home and thinking it through, I'm going to ask my dad tomorrow to mail it home. Who knows how things will change between now and then, plus, the kid will have it come Christmas and I know he's getting a couple games this year.
