Yesterday, I got to listen to a few minutes of CM Punk on the Herd before I went to work. I was worried I wouldn't want to leave for work because I would get too interesting in it, but that wasn't the case at all. Cowherd really was trying to talk about his UFC debut and crossover appeal, but that wasn't what he got. He got Punk still complaining about being mistreated by the WWE, saying he got paid nothing, had to cover all of his own expenses in transportation(even though he got his own bus in his last contract), food and hotels, ect. Which of course got Cowherd to the question about did he regret not leaving after his contract expired in 2011. Punk said no, but said he was talking to UFC at that point as well, and then continued to complain about WWE and talk about how he was just done with it.
Then, the thing that just had me done with the interview and was not prompted by Cowherd was when Punk said he heard fans complain about his behavior towards them. I thought he was going to say how mentality he was in a bad place, which he said he was, but instead said that the fans he treated poorly deserved it and brought it upon themselves. I just turned it off and left for work, actually got there early.
After hearing how bitter he still is and complains about what everyone else in WWE deals with, I can really understand HHH's problem with the guy. I am sure he brought the locker room down with his negativity. At least he could have done something positive with his grievances. Pull a Ventura and try to start a union, or get together with the other wrestlers to demand more. But just bitching about is helping no one. Also, he made a ton of money and got to be WWE Champion, guarantee if you tell Punk that ten years ago, he's ecstatic. I know Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart agreed the best advice they were given as Champions was to enjoy it and neither of them listened, but this goes WAY beyond that.

Punk is the type of guy that what can bring him success can also be what dooms him as well.
What I mean by that is the fact that he has that I don't give a f**** attitude has helped him build a reputation and when people tell him no he tries harder. However, he can't turn that attitude off even when he's on the top. His attitude is what drives him for better or worse.
I won't say he's as much bitter as it's just the way he is. Everybody has a friend who's a complete asshole but you get them because u know them and that's the way they are.
At this point in life he can do whatever he wants and hopefully if it isn't UFC it will be something that brings him joy.
Even if he's your friend that negative vibe will drive people away

It's weird, because I felt (and still feel) that Punk was right in some of his complaints. But he's been such a bitter asshat about it that I've reached the 'Oh shut up already' point with him

He has the Bret Hart syndrome.
He can't let go of what WWE did to him, even after many years past. When Vince went Owen's funeral, Bret confronted him. Instead of talking about Owen, which he did once or twice, the conversation ended up being a bitchfeat about the screwjob.
Some people are marks for themselves and can't accept wrestling as a business.

It's his ego. He's always had one and now it's just become even bigger since he had a top spot in the WWE. It became much bigger now that he's on his self righteous anger tour since leaving. I don't see it ever stopping either. I don't think he could turn that off even if he is aware of it.
There are a lot of wrestlers that have this "We are to be respected like knights because we constantly put our bodies on the line and the fans are like peasants because they have no comprehension of what we go through" attitude and Punk is definitely one of them. They feel like they've earned the right to put themselves above other people in the world. You can say they're trapped in the wrestling bubble but I call it being an a-hole.
We all make choices in life and we all have to deal with whatever consequences they bring. That doesn't make any of us better than each other. Life is 10 percent what you make it and 90 percent how you take it. Many people don't miss Punk anymore because most people don't like a bitter bitch. Maybe he should just start a podcast with Shane Douglas at this point.

Some people are marks for themselves and can't accept wrestling as a business. I was going to make it a poll of who is more bitter, Bret or Punk. I do have to say though, I've been listening to Hart's podcast, and he has definitely let go of a lot of those bad feelings(still a mark for himself though). It took him a long time to get over the screwjob and even he admits it was eating him alive.

Because he is a Cubs fan. So am I, and really there are two types of Cubs fans. The bitter ones, which tend to be older, but not all older Cubs fans, and the overly optimistic ones.

I understand that he has a pretty big ego, but, I would never say that a fan deserved to be treated poorly. Fans can probably become grating when you're tired, and they want an autograph, or just tell you they enjoy your work, but they certainly wouldn't deserve poor treatment.

He had a dream and saw it crushed, then was nearly killed by their doctors, got fired on his wedding day by them and now is being sued by their doctor with WWE's help. He hasn't had the chance to escape from their to put it behind him or move on.
As for the fan thing, Punk has said for years their is a right time, place and way to approach him, so that doesn't shock me at all.

I agree, sometimes it happens. Wrestlers can be grumpy from the travel and not always be the nicest guy, it's honestly understandable. But it takes a special kind of jerk to justify treating fans poorly on national tv and blame it on them.

Your first part contains some pretty genuine complaints, so why just cry about the general conditions of the wrestling business on national television instead of the points you listed? As far as the second part, he has, but to me it's just being a mark for yourself and giving an excuse to treat people like shit. I mean you really think a guy deserves to be elbowed and punched in the face for accidentally touching him!? He has no problem treating other people like trash, but expects to be treated well. Funny how that has worked out, some might call that karma.

Personally, I want to see him get his ass kicked badly in UFC, for his own good. Maybe he wouldn't be so self centered and actually respect the fans that like him.

Have you listened to the Colt Cabana podcast? I'd say it does a pretty good job setting it all out there.
I do also wonder sometimes how much of it is an act. Bitter Punk gets more attention for his UFC fight, kind of thing.

Funny how that has worked out, some might call that karma. Because the general public doesn't give a shit about his personal life and he may not legally be able to talk about the lawsuit. I'd also argue that the general treatment the roster receives is a major part of his dream being killed. He gets the world title, move a lot of merchandise, is one of the most popular guys they had at that time and he gets none of the treatment that someone at that level would get. I don't think it is being a mark for yourself to want to be left alone in the bathroom, at the airport, the gym or at dinner or expect to hear please and thank you. I've never heard of him being an ass to kids or even most people, the complaints usually come from the airport stalkers or places like that. Maybe he has, I don't know, I just don't think it is too much to say that you don't want to be bothered in certain places. I don't know of any incident like you are talking about except the one on RAW and that would be the exact opposite of what I am talking about.

Again referring to the podcast, he talks about one of these instances, where someone yells HEY PHIL! and demands an autograph while Punk hands are full of hot dogs at a Blackhawks game.

Punk's anti-social personality is the reason why WWE were never going to make him the #1 guy.
Whether people like Cena or not, he's friendly and approachable.
