No...please not an Uncle Kracker themed round. Anything but that! Maybe it'll be like that one X-Factor comic with Doc Samson analyzing the team. Waffle would talk about how everyone else is too slow for him and Magnum will have green hair.

No...please not an Uncle Kracker themed round. Anything but that! It's not...everything you ever wanted? That reminds me of a song that I've always wanted to use in Idol but haven't gotten around to.

Judging Songs Now, Please Be Patient No. #FireCageking #cagegate #stopcage2016 #nomorebears #makefanidolgreatagain #crookedcage Nah, in all seriousness, it's all good. Also, bit of housekeeping news on my end:I leave for college tomorrow morning and welcome week is somewhat hectic, so if I'm not as punctual with picks there's a reason for it. Should pretty much be able to continue as usual though.

No? Oh well at least I'm not in the sing off. I'll take it!

Well, the results were actually posted very fast this time around. Good job, CageKing! And here's my list and comments:
1. Little Big Town - Girl Crush 2. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Still Unbroken 3. Glen Campbell - I'm Not Gonna Miss You 4. Luke Bryan - Country Girl (Shake It For Me) 5. Miranda Lambert - Kerosene 6. Johnny Cash - Streets of Laredo 7. Blake Shelton - Austin 8. Craig Morgan - Redneck Yacht Club 9. Lindi Ortega - Fall Down Or Fly 10. Chris Stapleton - Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore 11. Carrie Rodriguez and Ben Kyle - Your Lonely Heart 12. My Morning Jacket - Mahgeetah 13. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now 14. Sam Hunt - Take Your Time
Blake Shelton - Austin
Well, that's actually a fairly good way to kick off the round, I'd say. It's not a super exciting song to me but it's fine. I could happily listen to it as it plays on the radio and there is some heart into it.
Carrie Rodriguez and Ben Kyle - Your Lonely Heart
... heh... this is much closer to what tends to come to mind when I think of the average country song and I do mean "average" because there is nothing about it that I found special. Hard to talk about but basically, it's harmless but also unmemorable.
Chris Stapleton - Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore
The lyrics are interesting and striking with its theme but unfortunately, I find the melody to be too bland to serve them well. I understand such a song needs something quiet and low key but it still could use more energy and soul to it.
Craig Morgan - Redneck Yacht Club
Ah ha, the more cheerful side of country. And you know what? This song's pretty good. It doesn't really sound like a traditional country song but I like what they did with it and while it may not be the most profound of country songs, there is something very likeable about it.
Glen Campbell - I'm Not Gonna Miss You
Very strong song with powerful music that almost has a Pink Floyd feel to it, I am actually very impressed with this one. Not gonna lie, the voice isn't my cup of tea but Campbell still manages to make it work.
Johnny Cash - Streets of Laredo
Can't have a country round without Johnny Cash, can we? Even if he's singing a song from the 60's, which kind of goes against the theme, doesn't it? But I'm not gonna complain too much because it's a great song and, well, it's Johnny Cash. He could sing the Chicken Song and still make it haunting. That said, while Cash is never outright bad, I don't think this is his best outing.
Lady Antebellum - Need You Now
This one is almost more pop than country and it's... okay. It's kind of standard love song fare. Not much wrong with it technically, just nothing out of the ordinary. And frankly, I think the male singer just isn't good.
Lindi Ortega - Fall Down Or Fly
It comes very close to being really good but doesn't quite get there. High-pitched voices rarely work well for country and sadly, while Ortega clearly put a lot of passion into the song, she still doesn't manage to make it live up to its full potential.
Little Big Town - Girl Crush
And here's an example of a singer who DOES make the song live up to its potential! It's a very good slow-paced but still lively song and I've gotta say, it's not everyday you hear a country song about a lesbian romance (or at least with strong lesbian undertones).
On top of that, it actually feels genuine whereas other musicians tend to make such songs feel gimmicky and made more for attention than anything (I'm looking at you, Katy Perry).
And of course, there's also the fact it's not just about a lesbian romance (in fact, I'm not 100% sure it is), but a story of jealousy as well. There are many layers to this story, which makes it all the more fascinating.
Luke Bryan - Country Girl (Shake It For Me)
I wasn't expecting much from that song from the title and I've got to say, it's the good surprise of the round. It's a really catchy and surprisingly funky take on country and much to my shock, it works really, really well.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Still Unbroken
Hey, I remember playing that on Guitar Hero! Anyway, it's a great song regardless and if you're looking to score points with me, it is indeed a very good idea to pick a song from the harder side of the genre. Still Unbroken and still good.
Miranda Lambert - Kerosene
Another surprisingly catchy song and a very good one. It's especially interesting that it's so peppy when the theme of the song is actually quite sad and I think this is part of what makes it work.
My Morning Jacket - Mahgeetah
Well, that certainly is different but much like "21st Century Schizoid Man" last round, I think this one tries to mix too many disparate elements together but they don't merge well. It does get better as it goes one but it still doesn't quite work for me.
Sam Hunt - Take Your Time
Really didn't like that one. Neither the voice or the music sounded good to me, the lyrics were uninspired and I find the whole "I don't know if I want to be singing or speaking" schtick to be just obnoxious.

I had a nagging feeling I may have gone a bit too far off the reservation with that pick. Good thing I had those first two rounds to give me a little cushion.
EDIT: Holy hell, Rad's in the Sing-Off? I'm actually shocked.

Can't shake the feeling that there's an auto-elimination in the air. Basically I have a plan in place to give every potential singoff opponent a free gift certificate to Subway.Once they use it they will get food poisining and not be able to send an entry for a few days.

Not sure when Cage will be back on, but I contacted Brainbustaaah! and he's decided to drop out of the game due to irl stuff. Would love to see him continue to play, but it happens and he was timely in his response. He's judged in the past and has also gotten pretty far in the game, so sad to see him go but we can appreciate what he's done so far this Season. Cage will let us know what he wants to do, but I assume it's best to continue to send your songs to him for the 1984 Round.
