To start, pre-ordering shouldn't be the only way to get something. It's *A* way, but not *THE ONLY* way. Second, that doesn't make it okay for things, on the day of release, to be scooped up in such a massive quantity that basically NO ONE gets one. Not pre-ordering is not a justification for taking some people for their money just because you can, and leaving other people who genuinely wanted one empty handed. And as I said, we genuinely wanted one, we still do. But we're willing to wait. Faced with having to fork out a huge amount of money on our dog and being able to recoup some of that on a luxury item is something I'm sure a lot of people would do. I understand your situation, but what we're discussing are the reasons people are upset, which you wrongly pegged as being because I (for example) couldn't capitalize on jacking up the price of it myself. I took umbrage with that because it is blatantly not true, nor is pre-ordering - which, as mentioned above, wasn't really an option for us in the US - validation for this happening to those who didn't.

I never stated I was taking about the US. I was talking about here. This: Loving a lot of people getting all upset over "scalpers" buying these and selling them for a lot of money. In other words, you're pissed off you didn't do it too. says nothing about location. It simply mentions people who are upset. Also, outside of the fact that you had the opportunity to pre-order and I didn't, I don't see what that really has to do with anything. I'm sure there are people in your country that genuinely wanted one and weren't able to get one either for people who are hiking up the prices for less than understandable reasons.

Literally nowhere here did preorders. Miss Piggy even went to walmart last night at midnight and got turned away because they only had six.

And that's why I'm getting pissed off at people who live in the U.K. and are using Amazon here to call people scalpers. The very same Amazon that was taking pre-orders.

Just found out a friend of mine who pre-ordered his on the Smyths website, is not actually getting his for a couple of weeks. Looks like a ton of retailers here are going to be fighting it out for when stocks come back in.

Hell, you can pick up a NES and an HD mod chip for a similar price, basically matching the major advantage the NES Classic has but with the benefit of being able to play any NES game.

Or this. www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=36&products_id=78A HDMI NES Clone system made with real part. I been thinking about getting this next year, it would look nice next to my NES and NES Top Loader.

Supposedly Nintendo's going to keep churning them out between now and Christmas, so expect them to release like two in a Target in Wisconsin or something. Can't see the UK getting any more between now and Christmas. So if I hold onto it for a while, it might get even more valuable. Unlikely, more expected in the uk retailers by end of the month/early December.

Collectors have this really weird "If I knew then what I know now" thing when it comes to Nintendo. I'm sure it extents to most collecting fandoms, but as I'm closest to the game collectors, I see it the most with Nintendo and their products. When Amiibos came to be, damn near every one was treated as if it was a rare thing and people jump on it because they all think, "man, if I had kept this game in perfect condition when I was little, imagine how much it'd be worth now." or "Man, if only I had picked up Little Samson for $15 bucks when it first came out."
To be honest, Nintendo is a master of creating artificial high demand. When the Wii came out, it was almost impossible to find them in stores for at least six to eight months because they limited the amount of stock they'd ship out. It's the same with Amiibos and it's the same with this. It's really dumb and I don't get why Nintendo does this, all it does is create what we're seeing now with people picking it up and turning around and trying to sell it for hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It's not about "OMG I get to play old school games!" It's about another collector piece, a good portion of the people running to the stores to try to pick this thing up are collectors and have various versions of every game on the list.
Granted, this type of release is putting a lot of people's Christmas plans in jeopardy, including my own... I was really hoping for one, but there's a good chance I won't get one until well after Christmas. Even if Nintendo ships out a ton of systems, they've created enough buzz where they still might be tough to find. But, just like with everything they've made... eventually there'll be enough to flood the market and by this time next year, a lot of these stores will probably be clearancing out this version to make way for the new model which is likely to be the Super NES version.... followed by another NES version with a slightly different selection of games.

So, yeah, one of the local used game stores in the area (Just Press Play, Lancaster PA) called up all their employees and sent them all out to buy up every bit of stock possible, and instantly put a bunch of them on Amazon for $330 as soon as Amazon's stock sold out (in 10 seconds!!!) on the 11th.
I sort of wanted to call them out on it, but I think instead, I'm just not going to frequent them for a while.
