That interview showed me why guys like John Cena stays on top of the game for 10+ years
You have to be a f***ing shark in the business.
Dean Ambrose projected to me a guy that's humble, glad to be there, finally have the chance, yada yada yada. Humbleness can only take you so far and sitting on your ass isn't going to take you anywhere, especially if you want to top Cena one day.
Punk was the closest and look where that got him.
I liked that Austin called him out at the end about it. Will that light a fire under Dean's ass? Who knows.
The whole interview I was like "Damn it Dean, get amped, that's Stone Cold Steve Austin you're next to, man!" I get the laid back personality but damn if that's how he is behind the scenes. It's no wonder he was doing shit like squirting ketchup and mustard on Randy Orton and Kane a few years ago.
Anyone feel me?

I think backstage he turns it up and is all sharky and shit. he even said thats what him and rollins were saying about not giving a f*** if people hate him. I don't think you get as far as dean if you don't have some kind of edge to you.

I don't know, his aloofness feels a bit put on to me. I get not wanting to talk about personal stuff, I'm the same way, don't really feel entitled to know his life story if he doesn't want to tell it. But I was a bit underwhelmed by his inability to provide much in terms of his wrestling philosophy and the thought process behind his work and I think that's sort of where Austin's apparent frustration with the interview and his last minute pep talk was about. I don't doubt that he works hard and he's obviously really talented but I think he (this seemingly goes for a lot of guys) could stand to be more engaged in what he's doing than just doing the best with what he's given. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes though.

But just some of the answers to Austin's questions made me feel like Austin was expecting a lot more out of Ambrose. Hell, I was expecting a lot more out of Ambrose's answers because I'm a fan of his. But I didn't get that feeling that he's a shark like Cena, Austin, Rock, anyone who has ever been the top guy of the company has. Dudes back in the Attitude era wanted to cut each others heads off. Yeah, the Shield thing was cool and whatnot but it's what you do after it's over. I got the feeling more than ever about that "people walking on eggshells backstage" report from awhile back. I'm like, come on Dean. You should've gotten your run a few years ago, man. It's easy to get a run now because the roster is split in half and you're a good talent. But when are you going to be like "screw creative, screw this "Lunatic Fringe" label that I don't know where the hell it came from, this is what I want to do and it's final!". That's what I got out of Punk when he got his run, I think his situation worked out differently because the company hated him from the start. But that's another story.

That's what I got out of Punk when he got his run, I think his situation worked out differently because the company hated him from the start. But that's another story. I think Mick Foley is a good example of a guy who could stand as a pretty good example for guys today. Wrestlers today do hit me with a "happy to be there" vibe, Mick Foley isn't someone I'd describe as a "shark" but he was a guy who had a keen eye for wrestling storytelling and though he never got 100% of what he wanted ever, his career would have been a lot worse off if he didn't fight constantly to get some semblance of his own ideas on TV. I could be wrong but I just don't feel like wrestlers operate from that artistic headspace beyond working their asses off in the ring. I'd love to hear more stories of wrestlers entering "promoland" and becoming hellbent on expressing themselves the way they want to. I know, the whole eggshells deal and all that but I feel like there's a respectful way to fight for your own ideas that could yield results, a guy as talented as Dean Ambrose isn't going to be outright fired for having too many ideas. Unless they just don't have the ideas to begin with. I'd love to have heard what Ambrose wanted to do instead of pinning it all on Lesnar.

What I want to know is exactly what Ambrose and Austin talked about once the filming stopped. Austin was still talking to him and Ambrose looked like he was saying "are we off?" or something, needless to say it was interesting. Austin was basically like a dad saying "you can do better, f*** what they say" and Ambrose was like "I try as hard as I can and nothing works" so he's wanting Ambrose to break rules like he did to get where he can be.

I loved that Ambrose buried Lesnar quite honestly because it feels like a lot of people are scared ninnies to speak negatively about Brock. They probably think if they do he'll kill them, which I don't blame them one bit.
But just the overall presentation of Lesnar always feels like he's there to get a check and bounce. Only once I felt like he revved his game up and that was against... what a coincidence... Punk at SummerSlam.
Also hurts that all his matches are all the same. Suplex, suplex, suplex. Dean probably wanted his match to go the SummerSlam 2013 route, I feel. But it was probably hard to communicate with Brock, especially when you're not a great communicator yourself, you know? Just the vibe that I got from Dean as well.
Too bad, it could've been a great match in my opinion then what it ended up being.

I'm a fan of dean since he said "nope" live on monday night raw. The dude is just super chill and even I got frustrated but I guess he is part of a new breed of performers wwe has now. WWE has changed a lot since the days of Austin or even punk so who knows what attitude is best to have in the company now. I think a lot of these guys have to play ball first to get what they want. or idk im tired

Yeah, I know I've been venting about this, so I gotta scale back and look back at what Dean has to work with. But it just feels like the mood backstage is a little buddy buddy and what can I do so I don't hurt my buddy backstage, compared to cut off the head of a snake mood back in the days. I miss those days, honestly. That's why I said when I was watching "This is why Cena has been around as long as he has. He can pull his weight, project the good guy clean image, and laugh his way to the bank because nobody is going to pull him down." But, yeah, I hope this tangent of mine was clear for everybody. LOL

Probably the best Stone Cold Podcast yet. Ambrose was great. Loved their chemistry. Can't wait to see Ambrose respond and dial it up.

Half of this podcast felt like an interview with Steven Seagal where the interviewer prods him for specifics but because he has made up so much of what he says without any thought of where to take it if he's asked about it he just vaguely repeats the same phrases and dances around it clumsily without answering.

Yikes, Ambrose is not the greatest (straight) interview. First half was extremely annoying. Constant "likes", random rambling, and was bored. Once he got comfortable it was easier to swallow, but not the strongest of these specials largely due to Ambrose's style/personality. No criticism of that, hes just not the easiest interview.
At least I made it through it, unlike Paige's which is still the shits of these things.
