Girl Meets World cancelled (Boy Meets World reunion 1/20/17)

The way I understand it, Girl Meets World was Disney Channel's highest-rated original show. Even if it wasn't, it was still top-tier.

Now why would a network cancel one of their highest-rated shows?

Rumors have been going around about the network wanting series stars, Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter, replaced.

Now, maybe they just decided to cancel the show, rather then recast the two lead characters. I don't know.

If the show were to continue, there are only two options of where it could go:

Freeform - The former ABC Family. It already aims for the same demographic that Disney Channel aims for, but has a bit more freedom with storylines. Plus, they already air Boy Meets World reruns.

Netflix - Already has Season 1 and 2. Likely will have Season 3 when it ends. They could pick up Season 4 themselves, if they wanted to.

Now, I think GMW lost its footing mid-Season 2. And relly never found it again. They made their "Will they/Won't they" a love triangle for no reason. Then went at a snail's pace to the point it felt the show itself forgot about it.

By the time we get the resolution this season, it meant nothing. When your big game changer doesn't change the game, it ends up being pointless.

If this is the end, let it be the end. The stars will be fine in the long run.

Replacing Sabrina and Rowan would have been idiotic beyond belief. 

The love triangle thing would have been fine at some point, but it felt incredibly shoehorned in at the point they did it.

I only watched it when there were BMW cameos but this is disappointing and kind of pointless. It was doing well

I do worry Rowan made too many waves for their liking, both with her orientation and when people got creepy on her instagram or whatever it was and speaking out about that instead of keeping quiet.

in my screenwriting class last semester, we talked about GMW quite a few times. our teacher knew a few people who worked on the show, as well as some friends of friends, and the word was Disney didn't want them going to high school because they didn't want to deal with all the issues that typically come with that (parties, underage drinking, drugs experimentation, sex, etc.)

if they recast them and make them younger, they can stay in middle school forever

Although I was stocked for the show and have watched every episode. Riley was an annoying Space cadet. And having Maya fall for Lucas because she thought she was Riley was just beyond ridiculous. Also it seemed Maya wanted her mom to be with Shawn more than her mom did. And the youngest boy having a love interest with the bratty next door neighbor was almost unwatchable. I didn`t find it funny whenever Topanga would kick her out, It made me question why she was allowed over to begin with. Then show went and got very political with the kids acting way older than their ages would suggest. And a Nazi episode? in 2016 a fricken Nazi episode?

Yeah, they had her teetering on borderline "special" at times. Like, it's cute to a degree...but there's a point where you kinda need to scale it back

The class did a project on their ancestry. Farkel (The brains of the class) didn't want to participate because his ancestry was German and he was scared of what he might find out. It made him depressed for several episodes

Regards to the orientation, I believe she described herself as queer in an interview, and I think was intimating being bisexual. Nothing wrong with that, but I could see Disney sweating it.

She got people shaming her over some of her instagram pictures, as well as hitting on her, even though she was covered up and, you know, was like 15-16 at the time, therefore making it not alright no matter what she had on, anyhow.

I watch this from time to time since I loved BMW. A lot of it was bad but when they were good they were really good.

The two leads seemed to really hit a groove this last season. Oh well. Now to wonder which one their gonna try to make the next big thing.

And yet The Middle and The Goldbergs have characters in High School (and even college), yet none of those "issues" ever came up, and those shows are aimed at a slightly older audience than the Disney sitcoms.

You know what? Why not Nickelodeon? I haven't followed it much it recent years (since Drake and Josh ended) but it seems like they haven't had that hit show since icarly. This could be it
