That's right, it's Wednesday again and that means ONLY... TWO things, in fact. The Network double-header power hours of NXT and the Cruiserweight Classic, both coming to you from the Full Sail arena in Orlando.
One man that will be appearing tonight will be doing so for the first time in over a year. Hideo Itami has been on the injured list for 15 months following a shoulder injury that led to multiple surgeries to repair, and he finds himself in a whole new NXT than the one he was taken from. His opponent will be CWC entrant Sean Maluta, who took Kota Ibushi to the limit in a Round 1 bout before falling to The Golden Star. Can Maluta find better luck against another hard-hitting Japanese opponent? Or will Itami mark his return with a victory?
As NXT heads towards their return to Brooklyn later this month on SummerSlam weekend, there is one man that could make a glorious impact, pardon the pun... And that is Bobby Roode. The It Factor Of Professional Wrestling will be making his first appearance in the NXT ring tonight, and it will be quite intriguing to see what he has to say regarding his new home.
Three of NXT's champions are scheduled to compete tonight. First, NXT Women's Champion Asuka takes on the Canadian rookie Aliyah, and her prospective #1 Contender for Brooklyn, Bayley, will almost certainly be an interested spectator. Second, NXT Tag Team Champions The Revival look to put their fists to work against the rising Australian pair of TM61, in what could be a sleeper hit between two top-tier tag teams.
Finally, in singles competition, recent SmackDown draftee Mojo Rawley tries to get one last piece of hype out of Full Sail as he takes on the debuting Chris Atkins.
Following NXT, we'll have the concluding four bouts of Round 1 of the WWE Cruiserweight Classic tournament. This one sees a few familiar faces take the canvas in the tournament for the first time.
Rich Swann (USA) has been spotted on NXT TV a few times before, but tonight is the greatest opportunity yet for this groove-laden grappler to get his WWE career jumpstarted. Jason Lee (HKG) is a young high-flier who blends Bruce Lee martial arts with the cruiserweight style. Can Swann start the mission to go all night long with a win tonight? Or can Lee ensure that both Hong Kong entrants make it to Round 2? Lince Dorado awaits the winner.
Noam Dar (SCO) is the youngest entrant in the tournament, but has already amassed a big reputation across the European wrestling scene with his technical and submission ability. Gurv Sihra (IND) is the other half of The Bollywood Boyz tag team and is hoping to gain bragging rights over his brother Harv by making it at least one step further in the tournament. Can Dar roll with it and advance to a Round 2 bout against HoHo Lun? Or can The Golden Lion keep India's CWC hopes alive?
Jack Gallagher (ENG) is a gentlemanly grappler and supreme striker that looks just as much at ease working a hold as he does working a three-piece suit. Fabian Aichner (ITA) is a somewhat unknown quantity, but possesses an intensity and power that not many in the tournament have. Can Gallagher provide the extraordinary victory? Or will it be Aichner that advances to meet Akira Tozawa in Round 2?
Finally, we have a battle of two NXT regulars that have been finding form as a tag team of late. Johnny Gargano (USA) and Tommaso Ciampa (USA) are likely going to be the next contenders for The Revival's NXT Tag Team Championship, but will have to fight each other to advance to a Round 2 match against TJ Perkins. Will Johnny Wrestling's heart and abilty be enough to overcome Ciampa's incredible striking power? Will their tag team partnership even survive this bout?
All that, and Rudy Gobert Fadeaway reveals her next weekly CWC crush, TONIGHT on NXT and the Cruiserweight Classic!
