Only as an absolute last resort. I won't even try to kill a bug, I'll just pick it up with a paper towel and put it outside.

I try to remove them from the premises. The problem is that they know how to get back in, and often will. I won't share my house with vermin, I already share it with someone that has a compromised immune system and have to take that into consideration.

They may not be pretty, but at least those snap traps are usually quick. I detest poison or glue traps because it is a slow, agonizing kind of way to go.

I use glue traps, but I use the ones that are oil soluble so I can pour a bit of vegetable oil on it to let the little bastard go.
Edit: And I put them in places where I can check them daily. If you use this sort of trap you need to f***ing check them.

We had a glue trap before and it was terrible. I was living away at the time and my mom heard a mouse before work and left thinking that it would die quickly after...it didn't. It lived through her shift and was in a place where the cat couldn't reach it.
The positive now is that our neighbor has about 12 outside cats, so we have no rodents around now. The negative is that out neighbor has about 12 outside cats, so you have to be hella-careful to not hit one that is running out in front of the car.
We did had a repeat bat in our house last spring. Chased it out and about 3 weeks later, I saw it flying in my room. About 5 minutes later, our middle cat presented the bat to me (alive), so I threw it outside. 2 days later, that bastard came back in, it didn't make it back in again, because the cat caught it again and finished it off. Thankfully, the bat did not have rabies and the cat has been healthy since. I took her to the vet first thing the next morning and she checked out fine.

Never had this happen, but I would definitely do my best to let it go free. I used to have more mercy for spiders and centipedes, but during the summer it becomes a daily thing.
