Currently on late 1997 on my run through the Monday Night War and I was just wondering if ECW Hardcore TV is worth watching.

Coincidentally, I think its totally worth it up until right about where you are with the rest of the wars. I watched every episode from the beginning to October of 1997, at which point there was an outrageous drop off in quality and I quit very quickly. Its a great show for those first few years, but then all the top stars are gone except for Shane Douglas, who is just nowhere near as good as they thought he was, and drags down every single f***ing show. His first title reign was good, though, and plenty of other great stuff happened up until the second one.
This is my opinion on the matter, of course. There are some people who think it all sucks, and others who think the exact opposite of what I do, and somehow like those long boring Douglas promos about how he was the best wrestler alive and f*** Ric Flair or whatever. I think at least like 93-95 is really great stuff, though, and should be given a shot.

True love overlooks the faults. I actually love this response, well played sir!! I remember when Hardcore TV started just being recaps of their ppvs. That kind of sucked.

As true as this is, I think it's still worth watching if you have the time. The good stuff is truly electric, and the terrible stuff is often hilarious if not just baffling.

Oh, definitely worth watching. I gotta get back on it, I'm so far behind on the retro shows I've been watching. Haven't watched Hardcore TV in a bout a year, was mid 1996 when I stopped.

Sorry I quoted you but I was replying to the OP who was asking if ECW was worth watching past this point.

It starts to go down a bit in quality as it goes to 1998,IMO. Shane Douglas has the belt for over a year and defends it once that whole year while holding onto it, don't know why they just didn't have him give it up or lose it during that time.

Fall of '97 is when they jumped the shark, IMO. This is when you got stuff like the rise of Justin Credible and washed up former stars for one shot deals or even longer stays.

I think mid-98 til late 99 the quality picked back up a bit, you had some amazing PPVs in that run.
Also Shane Douglas looks like Eddie Izzard. For that reason alone I couldn't buy him as a world champion.

Its great stuff. Especially early ECW when Shane Douglas got to wrestle Ron Simmons, Hawk, AND Tully Blanchard!
1996 was arguably ECW's best year.
Its hard to stay invested though during the Monday Night War when WCW kept signing away their talent. The promotion hit rock bottom when freaking Justin Credible became the world champion. UGH!

I started watching around The Night The Line Was Crossed in '93, and always thought that Barely Legal was the high water mark. 1996 was their best overall year, I feel. So by the time the Monday Night Wars got into full swing, ECW was already beginning its decline.

Okay I've been watching old ECW. I actually think the 1998-99 stuff is ECW's BEST stuff, but then I was able to ignore the Douglas stuff (he wasn't really wrestling so it's not hard). But then I feel RVD was the best wrestler of the late 1990s, so his ECW TV title run is all over those shows. In fact I can pinpoint when ECW really and truly went off a cliff. It was that Feb. 2000 Van Dam ankle injury. It just wrecked the company on so many levels and led to the Credible title run. There are some good shows in 2000 but it's decidedly hit or miss.

BTW, a good chunk of ECW 1993 has just been uploaded, including the first episode.
