Big day for me, after a spirited debate on thefacebook.com regarding what the second line of Carl Douglas' "Kung-Fu Fighting" was (what was "Fast as lightning?" Those "kicks?" Those "fists?" Those "Cats?") I decided to look up an actual contemporary performance of Douglas' of the song, and clear as day he's saying "THOSE CATS!"
So, if it ever comes up in discussion despite the vast, vast VAST majority of lyrics sites online being incorrect, here's what the lyrics are:

I've literally always heard it as "those cats", lol. It makes the most sense.

I've literally always heard it as "those cats", lol. It makes the most sense. Does it though? I'd find lightning-speed kicks to be a little bit more frightening than those cats, especially if everybody was doing it and not just a segment of people I could quantify as "those."

If you are involved in a kung-fu battle, your kicks should be quick unless you trash. Pointing out "those cats" in particular implies that they were fast even by the standards of typical kung-fu battle standards. Not just their kicks were fast but so were the punches. They were so fast and moved with such grace that it was actually scary. Like, no human being should be this good at kung-fu.

I've never known anyone to confuse that line so this is new to me and shocking that you even had a debate on this. He's calling the fighters "cats" you know, like saying "those dudes" but in an awesome 70's way. Really clear line too, not like dude is Eddie Vedder or Bob Dylan.

Between a guy throwing a few kicks and multiple lightning fast cats who all do kung fu, I know what'd scare me more.

I've never heard it as anything other than "cats". I didn't realize it was in question.

I've always thought it was kicks, so it was in question, at least in my head

All I know is he sounds far too jovial and happy for someone describing what is essentially a violent riot in Chinatown

By saying "Those kicks", he's basically saying "They throw some sick kicks, but everything else they do is a'ight." "Those cats" though, these kung fu f***ers are just like, ridiculously fast out there.

Everytime I hear this song I think of I'm Gonna Git Ya, Sucka and Kung Fu Joe. "The door is ajar" "Please close the door" "Your door is open!" "CLOSE THE DAMN DOOR, DICKHEAD!"

Like others, didn't realise there was any doubt that it was "cats". I've recently had arguments with people about "In the Summertime" by Mungo Jerry. The opening lyric is "In the Summertime when the weather is high" yet people still claim it's "when the weather is fine". Two points..., 1. The last word of the next line is "sky" which rhymes with "high". 2. He clearly says "high".

Y'all, I've sometimes referred to other people on here as "cats." Like "those cats over there" or something.
Now, I'm not going to say it's ALL YOUR FAULTS you don't pay attention to what I say.... But none of you would've ever misinterpreted a golden cornerstone of American pop culture IF YOU HAD LISTENED TO ME.
But whatev, I'm fine. .....what? Those things on my face? Tears. Surprised? You shouldn't be. Robots cry too, my friends. Robots cry too.

I accept this...... but there really IS a bathroom on the right. Oh, come on. It's clearly "bad moon on the rise," not "bathroom on the right." Now excuse me while I kiss this guy.
