"Buckball Season"...gets a 9/10 out of me. Loved the portrayal of Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy as natural talents for Buckball as long as it was about having fun but complete dunces when put under pressure. Pinks and Flutters had some very nice interactions with each other(furthering my Flutterpie headcanon ) with two scenes standing out: Pinkie talking in a soft tone to Flutters about how nopony in Ponyville will be interested in the Buckball game and Fluttershy snapping at AJ and Dashie (which might be in my Top 5 favorite Fluttershy scenes now). Definitely a stand-out episode for this particular pairing. AJ and Dashie were also decent in their roles as the ones in the "wrong" in this episode. They were not doing it out of selfishness but out of how they see themselves working to their full expense: under pressure. That is certainly believable as AJ having to work to her best to support her family and Dashie, though not knowing about buckball earlier, to make Ponyville proud. Again, I have no problem with both ponies making mistakes as long as they say that they are sorry about the way they behaved. And have to say: they found a pretty ingenious way to make it up to Flutters and Pinks to help them how to have fun in the game again. That's how it should be. The true VIP of this episode came from an unexpected direction: Snails got a very surprising and strong portrayal here. Being a natural talent at the unicorn side of buckball due to not thinking about too much was a nice way to turn his negative portrayal of being slow previously into something of a positive. Was definitely nice to see (now if we could get Snips to get something similar). Buckball was an interesting new sports addition to the pantheon of Equestrian sports. Looking like a fun game utilizing all three races to their best potential, I would have loved to see more of it. Story had a good pacing as well with us actually seeing who won this time. The only small distractions that ban this episode from getting a 10/10 was some of Dashie's behaviour towards Fluttershy (I understand Dashie's reasoning behind it, but "Hurricane Fluttershy" showed that she knows better on how to motivate Flutters). Also was strange that Buckball is apparently an apple family tradition and with the Apples being earth ponies as far as I can see...do they always had to rely on outside unicorns and pegasi for this game? Was a bit odd. Anywho, a very good episode that earned its 9/10.  The TLML Adventures Part 92With her friends from Canterlot off to a cruise in the Sea of Neighpon, Lyra was bored on the weekend and desperately thought about stuff to do. Bon Bon suddenly returned from her shopping trip with news that a three-pony team from Ponyville would play in a buckball game against Appleloosa tomorrow. After Bon Bon explained the rules to her, Lyra was intrigued by this game and was definitely eager to see the pony team off at the train station...  Taking the next train to Appleloosa and after a good night's sleep snuggling with Bon Bon at their inn in the city, they both were ready to cheer on their home team...    After Ponyville won, their hearts leaped twice as high as usually. Drinking some hard cider and licking some salt blocks at the local saloon and falling into a peaceful slumber afterwards, Lyra thanked Bon Bon for a nice weekend that she will tell her Canterlot friends about the next time she sees them. |
