Read the first issue of Death Metal this morning and I liked it a lot. Gave me some real Hickman "Secret Wars" vibes and looking forward to reading how it's all expanded on. Yes, a lot of it is going to end up being cynical "reboot the timeline" nonsense but as I said before, give me a good multiverse storyline where Wonder Woman bickers with a Dark Multiverse T-Rex Batman and you'll have me for the long haul. I feel the first page with Sgt. Rock was totally Snyder's way of saying "bye" to Didio in as salty a fashion as possible {Spoiler}Rock basically says the state of reality is like ordering burgers and fries that turn out to be turds, with the waiter looking at you with a big infectious grin on his face expecting you to eat it because you paid for it, Rock's bit of advise is to shove the turds into the guy's mouth and have fun doing it

In other “Why is this a thing?” news, Marvel’s putting out a new series of cover variants...that say “On Sale Wednesdays” on them. Because if there was one thing that was going to get people into newly opened comic stores...was specified shots are when comics were going to be coming out? www.cbr.com/marvel-on-sale-wednesday-variant-covers-dc-shade/It's a stupid swipe at DC, because of the Diamond breakup that results in comic stores getting (and being able to) put DC books out on Tuesdays now. One that not many people probably even notice because (depending on a store's decision on when to put new books on shelves) everyone's getting their books on Wednesday anyway. My local LCS put it succinctly: why work 2 extra-hour days putting everything into pull lists when we can just do it in 1? Remember when at the start of the pandemic fans were clamoring for a big Marvel/DC crossover event to bring big money into stores when they started to reopen? yeah, that's not happening ever

Writers and Artists were. But yeah, Disney and AT&T would have to play nice to get Marvel and DC crossovers... (well official ones) and that is not happening.

Just the Marvel/DC level people are still a bunch of schmucks to each other (not as bad as the Quesada & Jemas / Levitz days) so anything above that really doesn't even factor in until the creative relations are better.

I was fully prepared to give the comic book store a skip this week, until I saw Larry Hama's GI JOE is out today. Oh darn.

Warren Ellis too, according to one woman's twitter, she's set up a private twitter group with about 20 women that have come forward.

Oh shit. This.........is sad. Now really hoping the Immortal She-Hulk book (apparently a one shot during Empyre) ends up being more than just one issue..

Oh.....quite a reversal from recent thinking, if true.... DC and Walmart may be working a new deal out. Beyond just the 100 Page Giants. It may involve releasing their regular comics (including TPBs and YA graphic novels) into Walmarts nationwide. This might explain why many comic book store editions of the Walmart Giants were cancelled recently. bleedingcool.com/comics/dc-comics-rumoured-to-expand-walmart-presence/

I really hope the Jon Kent thing ends up getting undone because I'm still floored at how thoroughly they ruined that character in no time flat.

Speaking of ruining things...seems they're finally discontinuing the Walmart giants, replacing it with four-comic bundle packs. I hope this doesn't spell the end of the Walmart original stories, they've been using them for the Digital first content and the stories have been by far the best things to come out of DC all year.

Marvel puts most books bi-weekly so that could be much sooner than later. ......although, the pandemic has definitely quieted Marvel's output - their single issues seem to be coming out every other week now, with the other weeks being TPB/HC releases only, on top of whatever lower tier books they've turned into digital exclusives - so perhaps we finally have a Marvel that's remembering how to do most books once a month now...

Apparently there was concern at Marvel that Empyre was not going to do too hot, but after the shutdown, orders for it improved. Many of the tie-ins have now been dropped for the event...and the reason there were so many separate min-series is that the creative teams of the big league titles wanted to keep their plate empty for the 2021 event heralding the arrival of Knull the symbiote god on Earth bleedingcool.com/comics/marvel-comics-gossip-empyre-knull-and-a-focus-on-the-core/
