I am trying to put together a list of the WCW roster as it was during the purchase by Vince in 2001, it was in such a mess at the end its hard to remember who was actually still around and available, I am curious if there was anyone else who was of value that the WWF could have negotiated with.
Its interesting to see who went, who went but was never used, who eventually went in the years follwoing and who never went at all.
24 WCW contracts that the WWF purchased in the sale: Stacy Kiebler: Shane Helms: Chavo Guerrero Jr. Shannon Moore: Mark Jindrak: Jimmy Yang: Lance Storm: - ECW Hugh Morrus: Johnny The Bull: Jamie Noble: Chuck Palumbo: Shawn O'Haire: Shawn Stasiak: - WWF Mike Awesome: - ECW Kaz Hayashi: Reno: Mike Sanders: Evan Karagias: Elix Skipper: Kid Romeo: Lash LeRoux: Jason Jett: Kwee Wee: The Wall:
It is interesting to see that only one person whos contract was purchased was an ex WWF wrestler, and two were ex ECW. The rest had never worked for any major promotion other than WCW that I am aware of.
Wrestlers who negotiated with the WWF and were brought in almost imediatley: Diamond Dallas Page Booker T Buff Bagwell Kanyon Billy Kidman Torrie Wilson (Technically she wasnt under contract, She had left in late 2000 but negotiated along with Kidman)
Wrestlers under contract to Time Warner: Sting Ric Flair Scott Steiner Kevin Nash Goldberg (Retired as of January) Sid Vicious (Injured as of January) Jeff Jarrett Lex Luger Bam Bam Bigelow Dustin Rhodes Rey Mysterio Jr Rick Steiner Konnan Disco Inferno Alex Wright Big Vito Norman Smiley Ernest Miller Animal AJ Styles Air Paris MI Smooth Cash Brian Adams Bryan Clark Crowbar Midajah
Im literally going off who was still working from Jan-March 2001, so there wa maybe more, just not being used. Am I missing anyone of note?

Apart from about five or six guys, those under Time Warner contracts sucked.

aka GOONNEE If you say GOONNEE it sounds like Goonie, what do we know about Goonies? That's right, they never give up. What company did Jarrett/GOONNEE/Goonie start? TNA. What company just won't give up after endless failures? That's right, TNA. Therefore, TNA is a curse laid upon the wrestling industry by what Vince said.

Goddamnit I completely forgot about Reno. What was the name of that chick they brought in to play his sister? I think she was an old Nitro Girl.

One of the sad things is that the roster WCW had a the end had a lot of potential, especially when you consider that had they survived they would likely have absorbed some of the ECW castoffs.

One of the sad things is that the roster WCW had a the end had a lot of potential, especially when you consider that had they survived they would likely have absorbed some of the ECW castoffs. One thing that doesn't get enough mentions when it comes to wrestling in the 90s was how often WWE took WCW's ideas. I'll just leave this one here: whatculture.com/wwe/10-wwe-gimmicks-stolen-from-wcwWhen you mention the young roster with potential, the WWE even stole WCW's idea (for better or for worse) of a developmental territory system where they would breed young, usually model looking talent, en masse as generic templates that can be molded into whatever the company wanted them to be. The New Blood/Natural Born Thrillers from the Power Plant were basically the archetypes for what you saw in the WWE during Ruthless Aggression era and Nexus days. It's no coincidence that Laurinaitis was at the helm during the final days of WCW up until the late 2000s WWE

I think that chick Reno and Vito fought over was Maria, and in typical WCW fashion they couldn't keep it straight whether she was Reno's sister or girlfriend. It is also interesting to see Styles and Air Paris on that list. I knew they were briefly around for that cruiser tag tourney but didn't realize they were full time. I recall seeing them on that NWA Worldwide show out of Nashville before that. Whatever became of Paris anyway?
As far as ECW guys go, I tend to think regardless of how he was later booked in WWE RVD was better off not having gone to a depleted WCW. Sabu would have been better off with a steady paycheck however.

Dusty Rhodes was in WCW when it closed, just after his ECW run. He and Dustin where working an angle against Flair and Jarrett just before the last Nitro. Bob Sapp was in Power Planet training at the time and I believe made on WCW TV appearance in interview forum. I'm not sure what Shane Douglas situation was by then. He may have already been gone because I don't recall him after losing the US title but he could still been under a deal. I was going to say Vampiro but he may have already left in late 00.

Sapp appeared on a WCW Thunder episode with some pilled up porno looking interviewer. Was interested at the prospect of him debuting, but the show was pretty much a let down after the Russo/Bischoff reboot.

Steve Corino was either signed or was signing when the sale happened.

I'm curious to see how Steve Corino would've been used if he had appeared in WCW and if Vince had picked him up.
