Remembering Black Reign

With the impending debut of his younger brother Light Reign (am I the only one who thinks that sounds like some hipster band?) I thought we could take a moment to reminisce on one of those delightfully goofy moments from the heyday of our favorite punching back wrestling promotion. The move to TNA made sense for Dustin Rhodes, considering his dad was working backstage for the promotion at the time. So TNA promptly gives him a multiple personality gimmick and sticks him in an outfit that made him look like Sexual Harassment Panda on acid and with a shtick that consisted of carrying around a cage with a rat in it and some sort of deadly pimp cane

They also teamed him up with something-something spelled backwards and had him feud with Abyss. How could it possibly turn out bad? Well, consider that Dustin was seriously overweight and was so perpetually pilled and boozed out of his mind that he barely remembers doing it and has even described that period as the lowest point of his life. God I miss those days.

Yeah that was embarrassing, Dustin is even ashamed of the gimmick to this day.

If Dustin was in better shape I think Black Reign would have looked cool. But, he was overweight and looked like a cow.

Well these encouraged me to do some searching through youtube and I came across a monsters ball with Abyss, Black Reign and Raven (Rhyno gets involved as well) Awesome stuff!

My favorite thing about it was the fact that his finisher was called the Schizophrenic, even though his gimmick had nothing to do with schizophrenia.

I was watching Black Reign vs Kaz in the mousetrap on a pole match with my stepdad. It remains the only time I've been ashamed to be a wrestling fan.
