Man, how outdated is this roster going to be at the rate WWE are releasing people?

Tbh as much as I hope this game is good I only think it'll greatly improve once the AEW game comes out. Yuke's and their passion, AEW's input from Omega and their people, that'll need to be seen. Once it's out there the WWE games can see what works and doesn't work and do their own version of it and the same applies for what the AEW games grabs from this game. It's like the Monday Night Wars, competition is best. I really hope this is good because I haven't gotten a new WWE game since 2k19. To be honest the AEW game seems pretty much destined to be a flash in the pan bomb for me. It could be really good - Yukes doing it is probably the best option you could hope for in that regard, they're good when they try and have the freedom to work - but I'm having a hard time seeing it selling well enough to make any sort of lasting impact because it'd probably need to sell to basically their entire viewing audience to even be one of the better sellers of whatever month it comes out. This is assuming AEW is even going the annual sequel route and not going for live services and battle passes. Which they totally could.

Did I miss something that's led to AEW's game being a bust before it's even out?
I for one will reserve judgment until after it's actually out, I also hope they go the FirePro route and don't produce yearly watery diarrhea like 2K does with just updated rosters.

So for PS4/PS5 players that haven't played 2K Battlegrounds yet, you're in luck. (Would luck be the right word?)

Well the bust thing is just being skeptical over any other wrestling game being money makers. Fire pro, for as good as it is. Did not sell well at all.

The thing is that wrestling as a whole isn’t popular in the slightest. People aren’t tuning into the shows for free, they aren’t going to pay 60 bucks for a game

Really I think Fire Pro flopped for a mix of reasons, but I think chief among them is probably just that it's very inaccessible. The game's fun to watch but it's clunky and awkward to play.
As for Battlegrounds on PS Plus... Ehhhhhh. I was really perfectly comfortable just skipping this game entirely but I guess with it free I'll give it a shot. I really didn't even care for All-Stars though so I really can't see this watered down microtransaction version of it doing it for me.

Being $50 on console with another like $150 worth of DLC did not help. The $20 early access price on Steam was basically the sweet spot. Also, FPWW never having a Switch version was baffling. Switch was STARVING for a decent wrestling title at the time with 2K18's suckage & 2K19 never even coming to the platform and Fire Pro is exactly the sort of indie-like title that thrives on the platform.

Speaking of wrestling games being disasters, it's not exactly an encouraging sign for 2K22 that going by the usual release schedule it should be out in about three months but as of now it has no date and we've seen jack shit about it. Not exactly atypical I guess but this is a year when they most definitely should be trying to reassure people.

Yeah for as not great as they've been... you can pretty much pick up and play the 2k games pretty quickly. There is a much steeper learning curve for Fire Pro.

I'm not going to give them too much benefit of the doubt, but I imagine we'll be getting our next gameplay/cover reveal at Money in the Bank. The teaser at 'Mania being placed on the show to get live eyes as well as the most eyes on the branding for the game is not lost on me. I imagine they'll probably have a highlight reel for whatever superstar is going to be cover star(Drew and Sasha probably), featuring some gameplay teasers. Then SummerSlam is when we'll get our major amount of info.... if we get that.

The tiniest scraps of what they've shown looks exactly like the last 10 2K wrestling games...

Create.... An Entertainer...... Ow. Also, yay more predatory dlc. Also, this mode sounds bleh, though at least it won't be whatever the hell the story mode was from 2k20?

It honestly sounds exactly what a new 2K game would sound like though in all fairness. That's terrifying lol

Looking back at Day of Reckoning 2, as much as there is to love about the game its roster is dire. Only four women, only five legends, and I think literally the only semi-contemporary tag teams are William Regal & Tajiri and Rene Dupree & Kenzo Suzuki and even then by the time the game had come out Tajiri and Regal hadn't teamed in months and Suzuki had been fired. In particular I'm baffled by the lack of the Bashams given they weren't that far removed from being with JBL and were in the first DoR.
