I'm still not sold on this yet. My biggest fear is still that this is mostly going to be a greatest hits collection of all the iconic/cool scenes from across the franchise. Plus the fact that it is directed by the person behind Snow White & the Huntsman does not give me the greatest of hopes when it comes to anything besides the visuals, which look pretty on point. Edit: And watching the trailer a few times now, I hope it is just an issue with the specific dialogue/scenes they picked, but ScarJo is extremely monotone in this trailer, which has me hella worried, because while the Major is prone to some monotone/emotionless scenes, in all versions of GitS she is also capable of emotion and changing the pitch of her voice.

Needs more ladybug robots. Heck, it would be fine if they just adapted the animated movie, but since they have to give an origin story, yeah that's fine. I'm expecting a big ol' "meh for anything not action/good on the action" action movie with ScarJo in tight clothing and there's nothing bad with that. Heck, it's kinda hard to think that this may become the best Hollywood adaptation of a manga/anime. Still have higher hopes for this than James Cameron's adaptation of my favorite manga Battle Angel Alita. I will see it, but I know I'm going to be disappointed.

I actually have more hopes for Alita because Cameron actually is a legit fan of the manga. Like he knew exactly which parts he wanted to adapt. He's just had one hell of a time getting that production going. As for the best Hollywood adaptation of manga/anime, that crown currently sits with Speed Racer, unless you want to get snarky and count The Matrix which cribbed a hell of a lot from GitS.

Looks more like the original Anime Movie, ScarJo's hair is the Major from that version. and the "naked" stealth suit was from that... though they apparently replaced that with a skintight white suit that just looks naked. Also the original Anime pretty much removed the AI ladybug/tank robots whose name escapes me despite them being pretty important to the story.

Okay....I swore at one point there was a picture of her with the Stand Alone Complex purple hair..but maybe in was a fan edit.

I never thought Ghost in the Shell was good to begin with so yeah, an American version's going to do nothing for me.

I know someone that loves the Manga, but hates the first movie as they cut a ton of important stuff out of it. He's already done with this movie because it seems to take inspiration from the movie.

It is taking iconic scenes from the first movie but the plot is mostly based on SAC. Originally it was supposed to be Laughing Man as that is what they originally announced Michael Pitt's character as. Now it is the Individual Eleven arc from 2nd GIG with Pitt playing Kuze.

... See, this doesn't seem like a Ghost in the Shell movie, from this trailer. I mean thematically, yes. But. No. This is an adaptation in name alone, and that makes it worse.

I only saw the anime like once, so can't say I'm a fan. I thought that trailer looked pretty cool.

After viewing the trailer, I am still of the mind that this is gonna look visually amazing. But gonna have bad acting and a bad storyline.

The original movie is one of my all-time favorite films.
Which makes this especially infuriating for me.

I have utterly no knowledge of the anime/manga whatever Ghost in the Shell is, but the trailer looks pretty neat. That might work to my advantage, as I think I am the only person in the known world to enjoy the Last Airbender movie, and I have no knowledge of the source material there either.

However Cameron had to move from director to producer to get production moving due to him being busy with all those Avatar films he has planned. Robert Rodriguez is the new director.
