So, it's New 52 hybrid Titans and not the Wolfman/Perez 80's team? PASS.

Not CN Teen Titans? No buys. They did already kinda do Judas Contract on the show.

Kind of curious to see how they play the Terra/Slade relationship. Wolfman/Perez went with Markov as the pure evil sociopath with the bad girl archetype elements and Deathstroke as an ultimately shades of dark grays anti-villain in pain about his son's death. Granted, the whole thing about her being evil for sleeping with him is a bit undermined by her being underage, so him being the more sympathetic character in spite of committing statutory rape is a little baffling in hindsight.
The animated show essentially flipped dynamic that with Terra being a girl capable of doing good but deeply hurting and able to do terrible things when lashing out. All while being exploited, manipulated, and ultimately physically abused by Slade, arguably in his most heartless and cruel depiction ever.
The former worked due to how shocking the betrayal was and how evil Tara turned out to be, with the latter excelling in exploring why a broken person like Terra would do what she did. Interesting to see if this film goes either way or tries something different.

I loved the show a lot, but after 5 seasons and a movie, I guess I am more at peace with them trying stuff than I would be otherwise, even if I still wish we got another season or another movie, back when it was more doable.

............I think I've realized my problem with a lot of these movies: while the animation is good, it's....wooden. There's sort of a dynamic feel, but the figures seem like they're being drawn to hold back.
And much the voice acting matches it. None of those kids sounded that great, Damian's improved but that last bit with Nightwing looked boring, Brother Blood even sounded like an uninteresting madman. Deathstroke didn't say much, which seems appropriate, but Ferrer (RIP) sounded fine so hopefully that will hold up.
Meh.

That trailer sucked. It showed a bunch of superheroes doing a bunch of generic superhero things, but nothing to show why this story is special or important or why you should care they're doing it. I can understand why they don't want to give away the major plot point that was the stories selling point in the trailer, but at the same time the story is more then thirty years old. 90% of the people who are going to watch this movie already know about it, it's not that big of a surprise anymore. Rosebuds a sled, Vader is Luke's father, Terra is a traitor. Stop trying to M. Night Shyamalan it.

It would have helped if the trailer actually had some talk between the actual titans, focusing on the emotional bond between these characters which this plot I figured would be about to some degree. If not for Slade being offered a contract and Terra's costume I wouldn't have even noticed this was the Judas Contract for how vague this came across.

Yeah, especially as they did a version of this (Albeit heavily changed) on the Teen Titans action cartoon... and while I know a lot of people aren't keen on it... even Teen Titans Go! Has Terra as evil on it. Also I find it funny that they generally gave people more updated attires... but Jericho still has is fro.

Or how they "updated" Dick's costume to his terrible red outfit after he's already stopped wearing it and it's been generally mocked.

It'll probably be serviceable, but it's \irritating that they seem to occupy a weird no-man's land between things. They freely take a lot from the animated Teen Titans, but also mash it with the Marv Wolfman stuff and more recent material, so I have to wonder if they're trying to be too general in their appeal and the end result just feels too shallow.
Not a great trailer, regardless.

At this point there's more potential in the surprise not being her betrayal itself, but her reason for doing differing from the original comics or the Titans cartoon. I think it would interesting if Slade's reasoning for his actions was similar to that of the comics (angry over Jericho's fate) but its Markov revealed to be the punch clock villain simply fulfilling a job she was given. You can certainly have the drama of the Titans (especially Beast Boy) deeply damaged by her betrayal as the center. However you'd also have some shades of gray and ambiguity over how genuine her feelings towards the group were, or how much her explanation to them of "nothing personal" is a performance itself. Thus she's a villain not wholly evil like the comics Tara, nor a tragic figure like animated Terra; a girl simply carrying out a Judas Contract and perhaps... nothing more.

I don't think DC has the balls to stray too far from the source material in terms of motivation or whatnot when it comes to this story. The fans have been begging for an animated adaptation of the comic for like a decade now and have seen many false starts when it comes to it. Between that and DC's general reverence of the Wolfman/Perez era Titans, I don't see anybody there saying "hey, let's do something a little different" for this.

Eh, a token effort to tie it into their new continuity doesn't really scream "originality". I'd be amazed if anything Jaime says doesn't sound like it could also come straight from Cyborg without any changes.
