With games like The Last of Us Part II, The New God of War, Detroit, Final Fantasy 7 remake, Death Stranding and so forth coming around in the next few years it seem like the "next gen" gaming experience is finally coming into play.
My thoughts from the beginning was that it was going to take companies 3-5 years to get adjusted with the hardware and get the most of out it. The first year was an "experiment" and the second year was better and now with the 3rd year we are seeing AAA titles come out in full force. In due time we will tell if the PSVR is a gimmick or if they are really committed to it but things are now taking an upturn in regards to quality.
What are your thoughts ?

Sony's (and to a lesser degree Microsoft's) problem for two generations now has been getting the big console out and suffering from a lackluster library for the its first 18 months. A problem Nintendo stealthily avoided with the Wii U by simply having a lackluster library throughout its entire run.

I would actually say that (especially on PS4) there's been a pretty solid lineup of games since this generation started. Sure, there's been duds, but it's been way better than how the PS3 and 360 started out.

Is it coming on its own quicker than last gen? Yeah. Still seems like "land of deja vu" with most of it though.

I mean I get why it is being done, there are lots of people with a console this gen that didn't have one last gen, and it is, across the board, taking longer to develop games this generation so this is a really cheap way for companies to produce some stop gaps to go between their bigger releases.

Thing is, I would get it from a consumer standpoint if said remasters were from not-really-great-sellers which can still generate a quick buck due to good word of mouth (say the Darksiders remasters or all the rumored remasters for the Switch, since no one owned a Wii U) but remastering games that already sold well when could simply port/collect them and ask for the same price in return seems like an excuse more than anything. Like, does anyone need ANOTHER Resident Evil remake? Or haven't played Borderlands? Does anyone still care about DmC? I didn't even knew that Saint's Row IV had a PS4/XOne remake! (sure it comes with Gat Out Of Hell but it's still a remastered version of the original) And yet there's still people claimoring for more of these, geez. I mean, the only remakes/remasters I ever bought were the Devil Survivor games on the 3DS (because there were no DS versions around) and, if you count that, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition (aka, the best edition), so I'm not really one to judge (and I will probably buy Skyrim again on the Switch, so guilty as hell there) but people aren't really buying these in droves and literally saying "we want the same thing we had before with a literal shinier coat of paint!", are they? Again, not all of those are bad, but the sheer amount of them (coupled with the return of "intense sequelitis with nothing really new to show", especially on the Sony/MS camp) makes me think that this might be the boringest generation so far, as so few things are being added to the medium that benefit it, IMO.

For what it's worth, all of the remakes that I've played genuinely are better than their last-gen counterparts. For example, The Last of Us, an already superb game on PS3, is a lot better on PS4 and you can definitely tell when playing it. I completely understand wanting new content instead of remade old content, but (for the most part, at least) they are actually improving the games.

Oh, I'm pretty sure they do. Then again, I'm complaining more about the amount than the quality. Then again, it's hard to critique the quality when it was a good/great game to begin with. Unless you're Konami "cause Konami is the worse. #f***onami"* (seriously, how can you botch both the Silent Hill and ZOE remasters? And not giving all the content on the MGS ones (namely the extra stuff from Substance and Subsistance in both MGS2 and 3)?)
*quoting Jim Sterling here. Konami is actually one of my favourite gaming companies of all time and 2/3 of my personal top 3 in games are made by them (Suikoden 2 and Metal Gear Solid)... but something went seriously wrong with them at the turn from the PS2/Xbox/GC era to the PS3/X360/Wii one, cause Kojima being Kojima and PES being PES aside, that Konami had nothing of what made it great.
