So I guess enjoy, critique or whatever. XD
My short called "Guided Tour".
Guided tour
The interior of my car slowly comes into focus as moonlight barely illuminates it. The smell of smoke suddenly hits my nose. The front of the car seems to be inside of what appear to be a broken door and wall of a building. It becomes obvious to me that I just had a car wreck. I unbuckle my seat belt, push open the driver’s side door, and look outside. My legs wobble a bit as I try to regain my strength. It seems I am at some giant warehouse. I look at the left and right sides, and the place seems to almost go as far as the eye can see. Behind me I notice the trees and hills where I most likely came down from. I was on my way to visit my cousin Gina, and then it all becomes a dark blur until now.
All of a sudden I hear a strange, deep pitched sound. It’s far in the distance, and rises and falls in volume. I wonder if it’s some siren. But I’ve never heard one sound like that. My thoughts are then interrupted by what sounds like footsteps moving dirt around. The sound reappears, but this time freezes me in my place, and makes my skin tighten. It is much louder and definitely not far in the distance. It starts to resemble howling and shrieking simultaneously. I regain control of my legs, and quickly run inside the giant hole made by the car. To be safer I open a door that is inside this room, and continue to the next.
Everything is suddenly pitch black. The strange sound slowly fades away. It then occurs to me to look at my cell phone. I pull it from my pocket and turn it on. It is the only source of light in here. I check the phone and there is no signal what so ever. Out of all the times for this to happen. Then again this does seem to be in a place far from any towers. I turn on the flashlight feature on my phone. A bright ,circular light hits the wall in front of me. I move the light around and notice this is a small, empty room with a door at the end. The sound of a text message unexpectedly jolts me. The phone almost slips from my hand. I guess a tiny bit of signal must have made it through. The message is from someone named “Bernard”. Who the hell is Bernard? I check the message, and it says “To reach safety, go to the next room and go to the door to the left.” What the hell is going? Seems like some instructions to some bizarre game. I look at the name and there is no number attached to it. I press reply and type in “who are you?” I press send, but it doesn’t go through. I press dial but it doesn’t call out. Of course, I then look and notice that there was still no signal. “Who are you?!” I shout at the phone.
From outside the door behind me I hear a small thud against the metal walls. A second thud hits and parts of the wall rattle. I might as well do something. So I walk toward the door at the rooms end. I entered the next area and it is also pitch black. This time my phone flashlight shows me that it is a long hallway. I began to walk and inspected the surroundings. Inactive lights were over head, and the floor was the same concrete as before. My footsteps echoed as I walked. Another text message comes in. It didn’t catch me off guard as before. The name this time was a random assortment of numbers and letters. I look at the message and it says “this doesn’t look good.” I knew already knew that, but who was this second person? I checked and it is indeed a separate number from “Bernard”. As before, no phone number was attached. I reach the end of the hallway and it ends in a T shape. I shine my light on the right side, and there is another hallway that looks like it goes pretty far, and possibly turns into a corner. On my left side is a small passage to a door. Looks like the route this Bernard guy told me seems easier.
I enter the through the door and find myself in a long room. It is roughly three times wider than hallway as Inspect the thick darkness with my light. Another text comes in. It is Bernard again and it says “go through the green door on the right.” I shine my light and see a green door with some of its paint chipped away. A few feet to the right of this door is a plain grey door. Another text comes in and it’s from the random name again. It reads “where are we going?” I’m starting to get more confused and a little frustrated. Bernard said the green door, but I want to see what’s in the grey door. At least just a tiny peek. Why do I have to follow this guy’s instructions? I open the grey door and shine the light onto the room. Everything seemed dark, even with the light. I then start to notice that the color inside is actually a dark red. All the walls are glistening with the color red. As the color seems to look like it has movement, I begin to think “is this blood?” The red liquid seeping toward my feet answers this question. I quickly slam the door closed, and run toward the green door.
My heart is pounding as find myself in another pitch black room. I begin to ask myself how I get into this situation. I slowly start remember some images from before the crash. I was on the road and surrounded by trees. Then a dark, blurry image appeared in front of the road. I must have swerved to avoid hitting something. I regain my focus and notice this is another hallway. It’s long but looks like there’s only one door at its end. A text comes in and it’s the random name again. It says “please stop this!” This was really starting to get on my nerves. Another text follows that says “kill them all!” I shout out loud “shut up!” Followed by my phone slipping from my hand, hitting my left knee, and falling to the floor. Everything is absolutely dark. An immediate panic sets in. I squat down and slowly swipe my hand across the floor. I try for a few minutes and nothing comes up. I try to calm down, and take a few deep breathes. Suddenly a bright, blue light flashes from the left, as well as the sound of a text coming in. I quickly pick up the phone.
I look at the text, and it is from Bernard. This time there is no instructions. Just two image attachments. The image seems to be of the back end of a semi truck trailer. Two metallic doors with a sign that says “shipment 82213114 -03”. I slide over to the second image, and it looks like a screencap of an email. The email reads:
“ The Shipment of 82213114-01 was a success . No one on any levels was able detect that an additional material was combined with the pre-existing one. So we are confident that our goal is indeed feasible. According to our estimates, we may need only two more shipments in order to complete our task. Due to our experience with this shipment, we were able to see how to improve procedures. We are more than ready for the next shipment. “
“As always, it is on honor to serve the Smile Fortune Company, and to finally satisfy those above us with our gifts.”
And the message ends there. I guess this place is some sort of facility. I make it to the door at the end of the hallway and enter the next area. This time I find myself in front of carpeted stairs. It’s a short walk up to the next floor. I shine my light around this new floor and realize that there are windows on the right side. They overlook what appears to be a large room down below. Up ahead of me is a door at the end of this hallway. Another text comes in from Bernard. This time there is a video file. I press play and it seems to be a group of men holding one man’s arms back. A man in front talks and says “You’ve been a problem for us for a long time, Joe. But there’s nothing to stop our goal now. Don’t worry. This is gonna be painless. ” The man then pulls out a pistol and shoots the man named Joe in the head. The pistol wielding man then says “Toss him in with the rest here.”
The video ends but I still see light. The light is all around me. And so are people. They are all wearing white hospital gowns. As am I. The room I’m in is rather large, and there are men dressed in black on the sides. Most likely guards of this place. They hold large guns, and shout at us to move forward. On one side I hear someone say “please stop this.” We are in four lines, and there are four doors ahead. Each time the next four people move forward into those doors, multiple air pump sounds are heard. One man steps out of line, and spits out what looks like urine onto one of the guard’s face. Suddenly there are two men on each side of the guard, and they wrestle and punch him. I notice that is happening to all the guards all around the room. Soon blood is on the floor. One of the men has an eye ball in his hand, while another has a guard’s gun. Shots fire off as everything becomes whirlpool of noise. Suddenly everything is dark. The phone is in front of me, and I am in that pitch black hallway again.
This most likely was a company with horrific plans. What exactly they wanted to do puzzles me, but getting out of here is what I must figure out first. I don’t want to drop my phone again, so I untie my shoe lace from my right shoe and remove it. I tie one end of it to my left wrist, and the other I wrap around my phone like a Christmas present. Two parts of the shoelace crossing each other on the phone’s screen. I open the door and walk to beginning of a stairway. The floor is concrete and so are the stairs. To my left is a door. A strong thud is heard in the distance from the other side of that door. This brings me back to why I went in here. I start to get more of a clear image of before the crash. I swerved to avoid hitting a man walking across the road. There was some something behind him. That image is still blurry. My thoughts are interrupted by a text from Bernard, and it reads “climb the stairs, make a right, and go down the stairs to your left. You’re exit awaits.” Thanks I guess. At least this might be over soon.
I walk up the steps, and then see a narrow walkway ahead of me. The walkway is made of metal, and with tiny little holes in a netting pattern. When I move my light across the surroundings, I see that this is a huge area. My footsteps echo across the vastness of this place. I make my way on the right turn, and then point my light toward the path where I make my left. As soon I get there I notice my footsteps seem a little louder. I stop walking and the footsteps sound continues. I move my light toward the source of the sound on my right. I feel a jolt as a large object is suddenly in my view. My vision slowly comes into focus as I see what appears to be a light brown cow’s head. On both its sides are multiple human arms of different colors, and covered in blood. It then occurs to me that the cow head has no eyes, but what looks like ground meat coming out of its eye sockets. Now I remembered how I crashed. It was a black colored bull walking along side the man I swerved to avoid hitting. This company said an additional material was combined with the pre-existing one. Those people were being led to air guns like the ones used to kill cattle. Beef and humans ground together?!
The strange cow creature then opened its mouth, and a human face was inside. The blood and saliva covered face spoke, and said “kill them all.” My body was still frozen from trying to process what I was seeing. As the creature moved toward me with its human arms moving it forward, my legs slowly started to move. I gain my movement and managed to make it toward the stairs before the creature grabbed my arm. I pulled hard to get away, and that caused the creature to move toward the stairs with me. We both suddenly tumbled down the steps. Everything was a blurry whirlwind going down. I then found myself on the floor, and quickly reached for my phone on my wrist. The door was there, and I quickly ran toward it while fighting off dizziness. Another door lay ahead. When I opened that one, a giant wave of blinding sunlight hit my eyes.
I was outside ( it was finally morning), and saw a paved path going up the hill. I ran up, and didn’t even look back to see if the creature followed me out here. Over the hill and between the trees I could see the city in the distance. The path eventually led me to a road. After being out of breath, I walked down the road hoping someone would pass by. My shoulder and arm were covered in blood from the creature. Eventually a car came up, and I waved frantically to the driver. He stopped the vehicle, and I ran up to the passenger door. The window rolled and the heavy set man inside said “are you alright? Looks like something happened.” I said “I’m fine, but I need a ride to town.” He let me in, and drove off. He said “so what happened, if you don’t mind me asking?” I responded “Long story. I had some bad beef earlier.”
My phone finally got a signal. I immediately tried to respond to Bernard, but the text would still not go out. I was able to use internet. I went on the browser, and searched the words “Smile Fortune Company
” and “Bernard”. The first article to pop up was titled “Journalist Joe Bernard Missing”. I clicked, and the first paragraph said “Journalist Joe Bernard, known for investigating corporations, has gone missing for close to two weeks now. His latest assignment was that of the Smile Fortune Company”. I looked up from my phone and saw the city getting closer as we entered.
