I saw a fleeting headline just now about "RIP" and "astronaut" and thought Buzz Aldrin - who just last week was in headlines after being medevac'd from Antarctica due to illness - had passed...
But no, it's John Glenn.
95. Wow.
What an amazing freakin' life. RIP sir.

I had a feeling this was coming as I saw a newsflash yesterday that he was in the hospital.
One of the first men in space, oldest person to go to space, only person to fly on both Mercury and space shuttle missions.
Not even getting into his Pre and Post NASA careers.
RIP John Glenn.

I remember my 6th grade social studies class writing letters to him. RIP, you had certainly an adventurous life.

Man, 2016 isn't done with us yet.
On a more serious note....with the cuts to NASA over the years, it is getting really hard for us to get to talk to real life astronauts of any significance.

But no, it's John Glenn. 95. Wow. What an amazing freakin' life. RIP sir. This caught me off guard, because I honestly thought Buzz had passed a few years ago. I didn't even know that much about John Glenn, but what a life. RIP sir.

We haven't just lost a hero, a real man's man, we've lost a generation. All the Mercury astronauts, the first seven Americans chosen to challenge space, have left us. That alone is worth tears.
I devoutly hope that all seven have the view they once had - high above, watching a world spinning below them, blue and green, with no borders and at peace.
Godspeed, John Glenn. Fair tailwinds and hope to see you again someday. I'm sure the view is tremendous.

Could hardly ever wish for someone to have a fuller life, long and impressive run.
I was surprised watching Brain Powerd (an anime, and yes, that is how the title is spelled) as there was a character named Johnathan Glenn. It's possible that was a coincidence, but it stands out as an unusual name among the cast, meaning it was almost certainly in tribute.

I remember watching his last space launch when I was in 3rd grade. It's amazing that the generation of my parents consisted of heroes like Glenn and Neil Armstrong that literay reached for the stars. My hope is that their memory is one of many forces to drive this world's space programs further into places where man has yet to go.
Godspeed John Glenn.
