...uation?
Because sometimes, when I'd go to the store or a vending machine of some kind, when I got change I'd occasionally have a rarity come out. I found a Mercury dime once that way, and I think a Buffalo nickel. Of course, wheat pennies are usually everywhere.
What finds have you had?

Walking down the street I found a Bolivian coin..I was in Bolivia so I guess it wasn't that rare.

I got a Buffalo nickel in my change at the store last year. That surprised me. I've gotten steel pennies a number of times but the nickel was the rarest.

I used to get foreign coins in my change a lot in my highschool cafeteria. That'd be novel, and not f***ing irritating, if they weren't effectively stealing from me. I don't WANT pesos if I am like 17 and every quarter counts. Get your shit together, highschool cafeteria.

Not especially rare but I once got a shilling in change once. I think they've been out of circulation since the 60s.

Working retail for the better part of 16 years now, I have quite the collection of old bills and coins that ended up in my tills. My oldest pair is a Nickel from 1902 and Penny from 1887.

When I worked retail, I came across a few things. I think the rarest thing I found was a 1920's print of a $10 bill. It is in mint shape and definitely looks unique compared to the ones you'd find in the 90's.
I had a decent collection of coins I bought as a kid, however I much preferred coming across coins in circulation as opposed to buying them in a store.

In the time I've worked retail, I've collected a few. We used to have a customer that tipped our sackers (at our store, sacking duties include carrying the orders out and loading them into vehicles) in half dollars and silver dollars. I've held on to those. I also have a "lucky" 1942 quarter and a golden Massachusetts quarter. That's the best I've done with coins; most of you have me beat there.
There's also a customer that only gets around $20 in items and pays for his entire order in $2 bills. It's funny to see some of the kids who've never seen a $2 see this guy pay for his order with them. And they're legit, we have to check any $2 and any bills $10 or higher.
And speaking of that, just last night I had my very first fake bill. Ran the pen over it, and it came up black. Once you started looking at the bill, it became clear how fake it was; the cutting was off, and the images were slanted on the paper. I'm hoping I don't get in trouble though, my supervisor took the bill and the customer wanted it back since she worked as a waitress and wanted to take it to her boss to swap it for a proper $10. We're supposed to confiscate all fake bills though. I am taking solace in that the customer was a former employee of our store, and if she came back I'd recognize her immediately. And she also paid in 2 $20s that were legit, so it wasn't like she herself was the one making them.

I went to use a Coinstar machine at the grocery store and found a coin from the Czech Republic in the return slot.

I tend to wind up with a Canadian penny at least once a year.
