Cartoonist-turned-executive Joe Quesada will be directing the pilot episode of Marvel Television and ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off, Slingshot. As reported by IGN, Quesada also storyboarded the episode. Slingshot is set between Agents third and fourth season, and is scheduled to run for six episodes - each three to six minutes in length.
"Joe Quesada is one of the legendary Shaolin ninja priests of Marvel," said Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. lead actor Clark Gregg. "We've been friends for a long time, and it's really a treat to get him to be out here and to get to work with him the first time he directs."
Quesada previously directed the motion comic adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev's Spider-Woman, and cites his own comic book work as experience for doing Slingshot.
"The same rules of storytelling, whether it film or television, apply directly to comic books when you do it right," said Quesada.
Slingshot is scheduled to debut December 13 on ABC.com and its companion app.
