I usually don't care about awards shows too much, though I do use the nominations to see if there are any smaller movies I might find interesting. But there were legitimately some surprises when they announced the nominees this year. - Ryan Reynolds is nominated for Deadpool - Deadpool is nominated for best comedy or musical - Finding Dory is not nominated for Best Animated Picture (and Sing is) - Tom Hanks/Sully isn't nominated for anything - House of Cards not nominated for anything Anyways, so yeah, the full list is here

I don't watch nearly as much TV as movies, so I can't speak on that end. Of the movie nominees, there are only two that got big releases that I missed, those being War Dogs (how the hell would I know Jonah Hill would get a nomination from it) and Rules Don't Apply (I can still see it at a second run theater, missed it at my nearby theater because of how much it tanked). I was more surprised than anything about all the nominations for Florence Foster Jenkins. I only watched it thinking it was probably this year's Meryl Streep award performance and having seen it, it's decent, but not worthy of the four noms it got (Streep would be the only one I'd consider). Also happy to see Hell or High Water get so many noms. In regards to Finding Dory, my guess is maybe the people that do the nominations didn't want the category to be 3/5ths Disney, so one of them got excluded.

Looks like awards season could end up being the Mel Gibson Redemption Tour.

Mandy Moore is nominated, and she'll win too.

Mandy Moore is nominated, and she'll win too. The Golden Globes is well known for handing out awards to new TV shows, so I wouldn't be surprised in the least if you were correct.

I'm surprised Mr. Robot or Better Call Saul or House of Cards weren't nominated.

Finding Dory was not snubbed, it was just a needless cash grab by Pixar.

Really glad to see Atlanta, Stranger Things and The Crown pick up nominations, in addition to the usual People vs OJ nods.

I'm surprised Mr. Robot or Better Call Saul or House of Cards weren't nominated. Or Orphan Black...or at least Tatiana Maslany.

I haven't even bothered watching the new House of Cards season. They lost me at the last season and I just haven't gotten the interest up.
Finding Dory was ok by Pixar standards. I'm ready for them to be done with sequels for a while.

Finding Dory was not snubbed, it was just a needless cash grab by Pixar. How would you describe Sing? It's a musical for kids with some dated songs. Nothing too offensive about it. Difference is at least sing is a new property not a sequel(If Universal was going for an unapologetic cash grab it would have been a Minions film) to a film that came out in 2003. Sequels about the wacky sidekick is just the studio saying "this is a character everyone liked lets make them the main in their own film!" and it usually never works out. Wacky side characters work because they're on the side they don't have to be the driving force behind the plot. Hell they waited so long to make Finding Dory the actor who played Nemo couldn't even respire the role.

I'm surprised Mr. Robot or Better Call Saul or House of Cards weren't nominated. Or Orphan Black...or at least Tatiana Maslany. It was a very strong year for TV and the Golden Globes usually take the opposite tact as the Emmys, rewarding new shows instead of just nominating the same programs year after year. Personally, I thought Mr Robot was good but not great this year and Orphan Black is only worth watching for Maslany's performance as the story went off the rails a couple seasons ago.

Best Television Series – Drama: “The Crown” “Game of Thrones” “Stranger Things” “Westworld”
That category is stacked! And what will win? That show I've only seen the promos for 900 times and looks like a cheap Emmy grab- “This Is Us”
Stranger Things or Westworld for me, I think.

It's like if Parenthood didn't suck. As for the other shows: Westworld - Really behind, but I'm down with Jonathan Nolan winning awards. The Crown - Doesn't interest me. Game of Thrones - Not a fan. Stranger Things - I downright refuse to watch it. The mountain of unavoidable, overly pretentious think pieces killed it for me.
