Sorry if the title's confusing, I have no words for what's one of the absolute most ghastly atrocities of our time. Please read this to know what's happening to real human beings right now: nytimes.com/2016/12/13/world/middleeast/syria-aleppo-civilians.html?referer=http://m.facebook.com/I'm at such a complete loss for words. Innocent people by the tens of thousands pulled from their homes to be tortured and killed or waiting to be bombed to death. It's utterly ghastly and I just can't put words together about it. I know there is a politics rule and I'm doing my best to steer clear of violating it, but I couldn't find a single mention of the city when I searched the forum and, given we have threads whenever there's a moment of mass death, it felt like this had to be mentioned.

It's absolutely tragic that people are literally recording videos and sending them out, thinking it may be the last time they're able to communicate. Add to that there's very little coverage about the whole thing, or no one is paying attention. I got into a conversation on Facebook about this just a little while ago that absolutely enraged me, but won't go into detail as I'd be warned or banned.

I got into a conversation on Facebook about this just a little while ago that absolutely enraged me, but won't go into detail as I'd be warned or banned. I'm sure I can guess the general gist of what that conversation entailed. The situation going on in Aleppo (and Syria as a whole) is equal parts tragic, disgusting, and infuriating. The casualness in which some people have displayed their total lack of empathy is truly beyond my comprehension.

The entire situation in Syria is Hell on Earth, people are trapped between a merciless dictatorship and bloodthirsty terrorists. And yet somehow it keeps getting worse. I read about reports of hospitals being raided and everyone inside getting slaughtered. Doctors, nurses, patients. Everyone. Let's not beat around the bush, what's going on right now is genocide. At this rate, whoever "wins" this conflict will only get to rule over a mass grave.

I was out in Auschwitz in Poland earlier this year.
That wad a real eye opener as to how f***ed up the Human Race truly can be.
Then you realise in a way, this shit still exists in other parts of the world.
Pisses me off that Human beings can do this to others, but not much can be done.

It's only going to get worse for the next few weeks. All the different competing interests in this situation are going to be rushing to grab what they can in the transition from one US president to the next. Just like last time.

It sounds like the situation in Aleppo takes all the worst parts of WW2. The Russians replicating the bombing of civilians and the forces of Assad emulating the Einsatzgruppen.

It's infuriating that for all the finger-pointing and tut tut-ing from all sides, no action was taken to prevent this from anyone. It's like Darfur all over again.

I just find the reported actions by the Assad regime and allies. One of the reports said that the cease fire was established and locations that everyone was supposed to meet to get bussed out was set. CNN then said that Iran, an ally of Assad, rejected the deal. Once they did that, the places that people were to meet to be evacuated were apparently priority target locations. The bloodshed will likely be astounding if we are ever allowed to find out the true story. I imagine that the upcoming silence from those now sending out final messages will likely be deafening.

These people are ten days from starvation, hospitals are being bombed, children are being trolled online because morons think posts from civilians are "propagandist bullshit," and no one is paying attention, it's f***ing absurd.

truthful? the people of aleppo tried to uprise, they got BRUTALLY brought down, then they fought back using american weaponary and money, while others took that as a starting gun to do what the hell they liked (ISIS running like cowards from iraq, turkey genocidal actions against the kurds) but it's only been a year since the russians came into it FINALLY!
all those small groupings too making an even bigger mess of things, and they ALL THINK they will be the winners in all this!
because this isn't iraq, a country that NO ONE cared about! or libya .....
this battle of aleppo is just one, it may have been the start point for this catastrophe, but it damn well won't be the end of it for at LEAST a decade more!
and as for the poor unfortunates involved ..... can't do really anything about it to SOLVE IT ..... out of our reach.
seven billion people can't save everyone
won't be long before this is locked anyway

You have to realize how this makes you look when you find it necessary to just add "that's what you get" and "can't save everybody," right?

I honestly believe that this horrible, pointless war won't end until everyone in the country is either dead or escaped. I can't even comprehend what these poor people, are going through.

Aleppo is a humanitarian crisis on a scale we haven't seen in years. I'm donating money to various refugee funds and support charities, but this is beyond human comprehension and beyond our capacity to help at this point. Keep these poor people in your thoughts, because there are so many innocent people caught up in this bull****.

I honestly believe that this horrible, pointless war won't end until everyone in the country is either dead or escaped. I can't even comprehend what these poor people, are going through. I am not going to say that the war was ever the right approach, but it wasn't completely pointless. I think of Syria as one of the first, if not the first, war waged due to climate change. Syria has been hit with a very long term drought (going on for at least 4 years now). This drought devastated the agriculture business in Syria and forced many rural workers to move to the cities to look for work. This influx of workers, combined with the economic turndown caused by the loss of agriculture, resulted in horrendous unemployment. This, in turn, led to a desperate populace. This desperation made the populace ripe for outside influence to foment armed dissent. Now, I won't go into the outside influence since that violates the "no politics" rule.
