UberEats Is Teaming Up With McDonald's to Offer Delivery
The latest development in lazy-but-oh-so-tempting food delivery options will definitely make for a happy meal, if you'll pardon the pun: The food-courier side of Uber, UberEats, is teaming up with McDonald's for delivery. Guilty-pleasure cheeseburgers and those famous fountain Cokes right to our door? We can definitely get behind that.
Sadly, living this Golden Arches dream will currently be possible only for the lucky residents of three Florida cities as it's still in beta mode. According to the Chicago Tribune, the companies will start testing the service in late January with 200 McDonald's stores in three areas of Florida: Orlando, Tampa, and Miami.
We're not totally surprised McDonald's is joining in on the UberEats fun: It's not entirely unknown that the fast-food giant has been having trouble reaching Millennials. Just one in five have tried a Big Mac and the company's profits have been falling as the group has turned away from fast food toward fast-casual options instead. There was also a massive hire in October of 200 people specifically to help the brand out on social media. Given all that, it's easy to see why teaming up with the Millennial lifeline Uber is a pretty logical step for the brand.
Of course, McDonald's is already a part of other delivery services like Postmates, but the delivery charges can be much more expensive than UberEats' $5 fee, which kinda puts a damper on the reckless joys of the Dollar Menu. The brand also plans to start an order-and-pay-ahead option on its app in 2017 for those who prefer to venture out into the real world to get their food.
In the meantime, we'll be dreaming of lazy Saturday afternoons spent in bed, sipping on chocolate shakes that haven't melted on the walk home.
