...when there were no weight classes. But now that there are weight divisions and a Cruiserweight championship, they just call it the WWE championship.
What's the logic behind this?

Well when a large chunk of the roster would not be eligible for it if a weigh class existed, it does need to go. Weight classes are shit in general. Really I think k getting rid of the "World" designation was stupid, unless they are going to phase out "Universal" too. What with the others being Raw, SDL, NXT, and UK. It might make sense to do so.
The idea of WWE creating their own answer to the old school NWA traveling champ with all these new territories is interesting.

i think it was changed because someone finally realized the world is smaller than the Universe thus making their storied historical prize second rate...just my personal take

It is all very unclear. If they are going to have a Cruiserweight Title - they need to have clear weight divisions and actually keep guys separated. When you have a world title that everyone can compete for - it makes all the cruiserweights look like a bunch of geeks who need their own special title to compete for because they could never fight for the world title.

I think "heavyweight" just got added at one point because they thought it sounded cool.

Well historically the WWF/E Championship name always been in flux:
-WWWF World Heavyweight Championship -WWF Heavyweight Championship -WWF World Heavyweight Championship(During Hogan's First run) -WWF Heavyweight Championship -World Wrestling Federation Championship(from '89 to Dec. '01) -Undisputed World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment Championship(HHH called it the Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship) -WWE Championship -WWE World Heavyweight Championship -WWE World Championship -Now back to WWE Championship

Last night I got into fantasy booking what it would like if WWE actually committed to having distinct, enforced weight divisions and think it could be interesting but the divisions would probably end up really lopsided. Like I think Rollins and maaaayybe Styles are the only "names" that could maybe qualify for the cruiserweight title and even then you'd have to raise the weight limit or kayfabe it.

You could probably have Finn there as well when he comes back. Definitely lopsided as of right now, but I think it could work if they perhaps had one show devoted to one weight class and one devoted to another. They definitely have enough talent to say have Smackdown be an exclusively 205 and under show. This will never happen mind you but I think it could work.

I was thinking the same thing that SmackDown would be the cruiserweight show. It would definitely be better than the two world title nonsense where the only distinction is what night the champ works. But then I don't know what you do with the women's divisions and some major teams would get split up (New Day, Enzo & Cass)

Corect me if I'm wrong, and I probably am, but anyone can win the "Heavyweight" title regardless of weight, but you must cut the weight for the cruiser-weight title?

I guess when they introduced the cruiserweights, they thought people would think it's weird how the "heavyweight" title was for people only slightly bigger, so they dropped that part of the title.
But then they dropped the "world" from it too, so I don't know why

Just wait for the super-heavyweight title. That ring will be full of fatties.

I'm just glad it's not just, "WWE World Championship," anymore. Just never thoght that sounded good.
Though it was always at its worst whenever they gave the belt to Mysterio. There was absolutely no reason to drop 'heavyweight' from the name just for him, people were going to take more notice of it doing so than not.
