If I want to watch Batista vs. Rock at WrestleMania, I'll watch Mania 20. Better match than what we'd likely get, on a better show than we'd likely get, and without six weeks of, "HISTORY HISTORY THIS IS HISTORIC HOLLYWOOD NOTICE US!" that would come with doing it in 2017. Kind of doesn't help I never have the slightest desire to see Rock.
I do miss Batista, though.

Also didn't he say he wanted to do something with the promotion of him being Drax and Steph and Hunter pretty much laughed at him. This was not a tremendously unreasonable opinion at the time though. A lot of people, myself included, thought Guardians would flop, because who the f*** are they? One of them is a tree, fer chrissakes. Many people banked on that movie tanking. Admittedly WWE promotes shitty straight to DVD movies, but they would be set up with PR people for a lot lower risk and higher gain, whereas Batista himself likely had no clout as far as showing up on WWE television as Drax. That shit is owned by Disney now.

I wonder if he realises he works for Disney and that he's trashing the star of their latest animated movie? I mean, not that I'm saying that Rock isn't up for criticism, but that doesn't strike me as the best business sense.

On the issue of GotG, his thing wasn't saying that WWE should advertise Guardians of the Galaxy, but that it might make for a good draw if he worked Summerslam that year (which was a few weeks after Guardians came out). No need to promote it, no need to run into contract problems or try to seek sponsorship money. Just book the guy who was in a big summer tentpole movie on your show and see if that gets you some attention. Which is what they do with The Rock pretty consistently when he's got a movie coming out. You don't need to think the movie would make over three quarters of a billion dollars to think it might be worth putting the dude onto your PPV.
It just feels really telling that WWE loves fawning over any D-list celebrity who will pay them attention and constantly tries to court notoriety and Hollywood connections, but they'd laugh at a guy for offering it because he's not a non-WWE celebrity. Even if Guardians of the Galaxy was a modestly successful movie that made back its budget and a little bit of profit on the side, Marvel had already established itself by then as being a major summer blockbuster institution and even only the diehards seeing it or caring could have been some potential gain for the company.

You know what would be great, Douchetista and Hollywood Rock as a tag team.

People need to understand that after Dave's experience after returning back to WWE, he is back to being sour about the wrestling business again. Don't blame him. WWE managment promised him the main event at Wrestlemania and a WWE world title run to get him to return. What he got was rejection from the fans because he wasn't Daniel Bryan and his promises broken. He had the wrestling bug again and it got killed once more. It also don't help how WWE treats his boy, Titus, and he is a legitimate movie star and don't need to return back to the circus. If Guardians hadn't have turned out as batshit insane awesome as it is I'd bet anything he'd find his way back again. Now? He doesn't need Vince. The fact that Rock occasionally shows up...given how big he is in a Box Office sense...still surprises me. And probably owes more to the fact that he 'grew up in the business.'

Sure, why not? Hell, let's just put all the current WWE stars in the ATGMBR so we can free up Wrestlemania for all the part timers and stars of the past to have "Dream Matches."
