Back when Beavis and Butthead were brought back to mtv around 2011, they seemed so out of place on that channel. Especially when teen boys and rock/metal/punk fans stop being catered by mtv long before that.

A lot of people look at the demise of MTV with a significant amount of disdain because a lot of us grew up with that station being a huge part of our lives.
I remember people getting pissed off when TRL started just playing clips of songs instead of the whole video. It'd be a horrific shock to watch what its become now. It's basically a random, forgettable cable network with two meaningless award shows.

We have too many threads skewering MTV on FAN. They're an archaic and outdated cable network, that's it. They're not some malicious hate group, or anything that truly deserves our scorn. It's such a minor thing for us to be upset over. True, but for plenty of users, this antiquated network which only does shows on catfishing, teen mothers, & dorks making fun of people dumb enough to post shit on YouTube or Facebook was once THE network to watch. I look at it as them discussing how they wished it was like the old days, eben just s little.

To be fair, while at the time it was a pretty big issue, nowadays MTV would basically be pointless doing the music video thing anyway with how the average person's toothbrush can access Youtube at this point.

I have fond memories of MTV as a teen too, but it's not something that really bothers me much when I think about the real reasons why it deteriorated. Emotionally, I've moved on.

My thing is, yeah, I get you can watch any video whenever you want online, but MTV was more than that.
Seeing how the video was made, how the song and album came together. Hearing about going on tour and stuff.
The Real World was intense, where young adults actually learned and grew from each other. Miz and Coral.
Now it's just the biggest bunch of whiny assholes fighting over stupid shit. Is it even still on? I think I stopped watching with Denver.
I enjoyed the Diary series. True Life. FANatic. TRL when it was still good. Spring Break. I agree, the channel needs to officially change its name, because there's no music whatsoever.
Hell, again...they're bragging about getting FRIENDS. That show is on fifteen other channels twenty times a day. Do something cool like when Beyonce did "Carmen: A Hip Hopera."
But yeah, I'm 33 and miss the fun MTV. I even miss Carson and Suchin and Daisy. John Norris, Tabitha Soren, Kurt Loder. Downtown Julie Brown (both of them) and even Kennedy and Serena Altschul.
MTV can do music and pop culture. They had shows like House of Style and The Grind. Game shows like Remote Control, and Singled Out. Was it "Trashed" where people got prized possesions destroyed?
Sorry to rant, but I just get annoyed by false advertising. Unless the "M" stands for "Mongoloid" now.

Most cable channels are irrelevant now thanks to the Internet.

Miscellaneous Television is as good a description of the channel as any.

A friend told me that Adam Curry said the reason they did that was they either didn't have to pay to show a clip, or not as much, which now that I think about it, back in the day, MTV did not pay an artist to play their videos, maybe they paid to get exclusive rights at first, but they considered the video a commercial for the artist and they were basically doing them a favor for playing it and artists didn't make money, but were allotted so much from their record label for these "commercials" Either way, it was weird that MTV seemingly couldn't afford to do their own job.

I thought I saw on Pop Up Video years ago that Eddie Murphy or his label paid to have "Party All the Time" ran every hour to get it out there or help make it a hit.
