...a Ridiculousness marathon.
Yea I pointed out something like this last year and I guess I'm nitpicking, but really, New Year's used to be a big deal and MTV provided an alternative to other celebrations, so why did they give it up?

Why do you care? I abandoned MTV the second they abandoned me. It's so weird because like videos were absolutely just on at all times in the background regardless of what I was doing until the late 90's. You just went there and left it by default. Then reality TV blew up and they completely quit having any credibility as a network whatsoever. Now I don't know what they do other than have a couple of derpy college kids smugly insult me for being a white guy.

How is that any different from normal MTV programming? Ridiculousness is on whenever I channel surf past MTV.

I personally spend every New Year's (and the days around it) watching the Twilight Zone.

We have too many threads skewering MTV on FAN. They're an archaic and outdated cable network, that's it. They're not some malicious hate group, or anything that truly deserves our scorn.
It's such a minor thing for us to be upset over.

If you're talking about that recent article of theirs, there was a lot of truth in it. Nah, that video they got smashed for. I'd say we probably shouldn't get into it and I probably shouldn't even have mentioned it in the first place. I don't want to upset you or create a snowball effect in which others do. Let's get back on point: Why does the Music Television Network almost never play music? It used to be "hip." It used to just hover over the current scene and throw upstart artists at you left and right.

Their mad grab for ratings was their own undoing. They very narrowly focused on only an audience that watches reality shows and those who only listen to pop. So the audience that listened to other genres went away, and later found their home on the internet. Focusing less on music and more on just general ratings kind of left them directionless. The channel use to push the envelope and carve the path for new things. They abandoned that path and paid the price.

Just do what I do, Rewatch the 1982 Duran Duran set from New Years Eve 1982.
And the Internet is why they don't focus on Music Videos anymore, when you can watch whatever video you want, you are not gonna sit around all day watching MTV so ratings go down so no money is made and they are a company not a charity.

Too be fair isn't a music video cable station outdated by YouTube. Like I don't blame them into shifting into reality TV when it's a reality TV nation.

Didn't MTV News used to do actually NYE countdown specials right at Times Square?
Do they even still have that studio space at Times Sq?

MTV is irrelevant now. While they used to be the epitome of 'cool', they're now nothing more than a joke. The sad thing is, they did it to themselves.
