She apparently threw a huge tantrum when they replaced Patty Jenkins as director of Thor 2, and was impossible to deal with during shooting. Kevin Feige has been pretty blunt about her not coming back, too. Sorry, Natalie. You aren't coming back. I am all for knocking celebs for things and blaming them for acting out but I don't see how she was in the wrong. Marvel lied to her and hired someone just to get her to sign a contract and then fired that person. If this happened to anyone else we would be siding with the celeb but because some might not been a fan of her role in the movie people trend to blame her and say she threw a "tantrum" during filming.

Kevin Feige has been pretty blunt about her not coming back, too. Sorry, Natalie. You aren't coming back. Bingo. She actually tried to pull out and Marvel had to remind her of the contract. Her response was basically to channel her inner Episode II and III performance - minimal acting, smile, collect the check, minimal promotion of the project, move on. Thanks, don't need the drama. Say what you will about Denning, she at least put effort in and wanted to be there.

See, I'll say this again, if you sign someone to a new contract telling them that someone they recommended/approve of is directing you in the next movie then fire said person for stupid (this is a big company, it was probably stupid) creative control crap weeks before shooting starts, you can't then turn around and expect everyone to be happy when they've felt lie to. If she threw a strop, sure, that's not exactly professional, but it's not like Marvel Studios were in the right here at all. And considering all that, it is completely rich for Feige to suddenly get all high and mighty about it considering his own internal problems stopping TV interacting with the films (you know, the fundamental goddamn reason Agents of SHIELD even exists but why it can't do anything in the wider MCU anymore). We can get into a very long discussion on how management at Marvel is disfunctional these days between Ike Pearlmutter and Kevin Feige. That's the big reason why television/Netflix and the Studios seem divorced these days. I'll take Feige's side on that one given Pearlmutter's penny pinching was driving everyone up the wall, but it's killing the shared universe, which is really too bad in the long run. I'll plead ignorance to a bit of what went on behind the scenes of Thor 2, but I cannot believe they brought on a director just to get someone to come back given a. the actor was under contract anyway and b. why disrupt the production for a show? Look how much slack they cut Edgar Wight for Ant-Man before finally pulling the plug.

I'm waiting for them to replace her with Keira Knightley in the hopes that nobody will notice the difference.

I cannot believe they brought on a director just to get someone to come back given a. the actor was under contract anyway Depending on which sources you read/believe, Portman was either pushing to be dropped from the sequel so she could take a long hiatus from acting following the birth of her son, or was in a Terrance Howard situation where she was contracted for a specific number of movies but pay and other intangibles was negotiable in between each one and that she was playing hardball. In both cases it's reported that Patty Jenkins was hired at Portman's suggestion, and once the production had reached the point where it was too late for anybody to back out Jenkins was dropped. Nevertheless Portman apparently explored her options with regards to leaving, but Marvel essentially told her they'd sic the lawyers on her if she tried. b. why disrupt the production for a show? Look how much slack they cut Edgar Wight for Ant-Man before finally pulling the plug. Jenkins was apparently let go because she wasn't pushing production forward quickly enough, with the release date for Thor 2 set in stone. Edgar Wright got a lot of leeway over Ant-Man simply because there was no release date in mind for most of the time he was attached to the project. Once Marvel actually committed to a release date and he continued to drag his feet, they shitcanned him as well.

How they made the transition from him to Don Cheadle is beyond me.

lol I forgot about Terrence Howard in Iron Man. How they made the transition from him to Don Cheadle is beyond me. It's damn weird watching Iron Man (and Incredible Hulk) now simply because of the recasting. I really didn't like Howard as Rhodey, so I'm glad they got Cheadle in for him.

Yea I mean I like Terrence Howard as an actor but he plays the smug or confident character very well. Rhodey is supposed to stand for the "American truth" be wholesome and all that good shit and I couldn't really picture Terrence in that role.

Probably the only thing that didn't work in Iron Man, to be honest.

She's more suited for a princess role in a Disney movie than a Marvel superhero film.

I love the actual introduction they had of Cheadle's Rhodey of him showing up where Tony wasn't expecting and saying "This is me, I'm here, deal with it" to both Tony and the audience That's my second favourite recasting joke behind someone showing up after 3 months away in Eastenders played by someone who looked absolutely different to the girl playing her before, and then saying to her dad who had not been recast "hey, you look different"

Just switch brands and go to DC. I'm sure Batman can find a good role for her in the Justice League. Considering how DC's casting works, I'm sure she's probably their first choice to play The Penguin.
